I believe I could build this:

How do I know what kind of sub would be good for it?

Why that enclosure? It has the response of a bandpass design, not very useful in most systems.......

What enclosure sounds good in home audio, just a simple sealed one?

Depends on what you need it to do, but ported enclosures are usually the way to got for movies and stuff.

Ported low and in the corner...Should the sub face the corner or the port?

Room is ~16 * ~26 if that matters. I will be going with a 15"

On the other topic, I decided to keep parts of my HTIB (5.1). It plays CDs, gets plenty loud for me (and I can replace the speakers later anyway)

Doesn't have to go in a corner, that will require some testing and trial/error on your part. ;)

I would have to agree with that... The corner isn't always the best place to put the sub...

i built a box for a coffee table fired down, essentially in the center of the room. cops came regularly.
