View Full Version : Mountaineer Man wants a horn, Mountaineer Man gets a horn...

well, Mr Mountaineer Man wants some horns, so, I'm designing some for him, that will house these woofers:

http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=290-307

will post the design when I've finished...

PEACE OUT MAN!!!

Yep, let's see what you can do on the box, I'll see what I can do on the install.

Just a note to everyone. These WILL be metered! At close to their RMS if both will fit, and then with close to 1,000rms to the two for a final frying.

design is complete... its in metric, like I said it would be...

rear compression chamber is meant to be 7 litres, but it ended up 16, so you'll have to displace some volume in that with MDF, or bottles of water, then you can adjust the volume, to get it as loud as possible :)

I think there's enough room in the rear compression chamber for the 6.5inch woofers to mount...

if not... not my problem... :D lol

I'll post the design now :) hehe

no dimensions on the diagram, at the moment, as it gets too confusing, I'll talk to you again on msn sometime, and send you a few diagrams, with different dimensions and stuff... :)

I was working in metric, so the numbers will be odd in imperial, but its 39.76inches wide, 25.59inches deep and 15.75inches high :) which are all slightly under your max dimensions, so thats good... :)

the horn mouth area is about 10inches X 14inches... about 7.5 times the area of the woofers cone... :D (thats per side by the way)

You will last a long time in any business.

it depends on the woofer, now doesn't it....

unless I have the woofer here, I can't exactly measure it, now can I?

but the design will fit a 6.5inch woofer I have here, with a few dimensions, like magnet diameter and mounting depth rounded up by a 1/3rd inch or so...

so, I dont see why the desired woofer wont fit...

saywhat?
09-23-2006, 06:57 AM
Maybe im a genious or something, but I ALWAYS can find the woofer depth.

and the magnet diameter?

there are numbers listed on PE, but they mean nothing to me... :p:

yeha, and if it says:

Dimensions: A: 6-7/8", B: 6-1/8", C: 5-7/8".

it means nothing, now does it!!! the smallest number there is 5-7/8 and I'm guessing thats the cutout, because its way to big to be the mounting depth, so, if you dont know what you're talking about, then dont say anything at all thanks.

I will probably start construction next weekend, hopefully.I'd go get the wood tomorrow but today wasn't a good day lmao.

Actually, I'm probably going to be building it this weekend. I might not if I don't have access to a table saw though. I'm waiting to hear back from a friend to see if I can use his saw but if not, I may start trying to get some pieces cut out using my ghetto chairs and MDF guide with a hand saw.

If I get all the cuts made this weekend, I'll try to get it all glued and whatnot during next week.

works well enough.

The only thing I prefer american standard for is for when talking about height, weight, and speed of vehicles. Metric is so much more logical but I know height and weight because that's what I'm used to. When working physics problems or taking measurements of something, I want it to be metric.

I have all the cuts but I had to go back to Orlando before I was able to start getting things together. I have lab until about 4:00 today so things probably won't really get moving until tomorrow. I'll take some more shots and make a new thread about it this afternoon.

It's much easier to make cuts with metric though. Try making a 20.42" cut with something that measures in 1/16 increments. It can be done, but it's so much easier in cm.

Except, my table saw doesnt have cm increments.
However, mine does 1/32".
But I could see the problem for some people.
I may have to give these horns a try sometime. To see what all the hype is about.

Yea, I just used a measuring tape when I used the table saw. With 1/32 increments, it could be easier but I would still rather just use a tape measurer in metric.

No. There are different types of horns and different types of transmission lines. They are all based on quarter wave theory.

Not all horn designs have a sealed chamber in them and some have the horn coming off of the rear chamber.

If you want to research them more, www.quarter-wave.com has a ton of information.

hey, Immacomputer made one of the horns, and said it was great!!!

http://www.caraudio.com/forum/showthread.php?t=188346&highlight=

Music sounded a little peaky in the 100-150hz range and it was a little too loud at those points. Late Nite Tip played just fine and had great range. The lowest note didn't have the umph that my 12 has but it was pretty musical. Music was able to drop to about 35hz and after that it rolled off; this was about like what it did in my room from about 55hz and down. Bia Bia was retarded loud and sounded very nice. The low part in that song where ludacris comes in dropped very nicely and sounded very clean.

This song was by far the best sounding song that has ever been played on my system. It made me smile uncontrolably at how amazing it sounded. It was much louder than my av12 with this and had amazing response and kick to it. It blended so well with my front stage that it really freaked me out. I've never heard such high quality staging with a drum n bass song before.

This thing sounded very very similar to my 10" w6 clone in output and clarity. It was more punchy though and had higher frequency extension. The lows were identical between them. I love this thing but it almost killed me trying to put it in the car.

Good ****. I still ride out with this thing in my room when I go home on some weekends. It still might find it's way into a friend's explorer if I ever get around to it.

it was designed to fit two side by side in the back of a jeep, with a frequency response to suit where the vehicle would have peaked...

do you have a vehicle you'd like one designed for maybe?
