Ok, For those that have heard them, or even better have them, I'm soliciting opinions. I'm considering them as I've heard good things and they hit the price range I want. Also, if anyone has compared the 265's to the 265 kicks, that'd be nice to know too.

What is the difference between the 265s and the 265 kicks?

Not very much. I'm told they have a bit more midbass in 80hz-180hz range. They are slightly deeper and look to have a little larger magnet. They have same upper wattage ratings, but the kicks have a larger minimum wattage rating. I just wished I could find some place in DFW area to hear them. That's why I want some descriptive opinions of them.

Well, to me at least...the SLC's are very balanced. Nice natural tone and pretty clear highs that's not harsh to the ears. My doors are pretty solid, so the mid's can produce a decent amount of midbass (I often turn the sub off and just run front stage. When I do, I cross them a bit lower for better bass extension.) Several members here that have heard my system can attest to this. I'm currently sending about 100 watts per side. These speakers seems like they can take a lot more power, but with 100 watts...they're getting plenty loud for me.

Is it worth the money? Definately. My Boston Coaxil's were around 220 when I bought them a few years back, and comparing the SLC's to them...they're a bit more natural, while the Boston's sounds a tiny bit warmer...all in my opinion of course. I say for the price, the SLC's are very hard to beat.

Hmmm. Good info. Thanks. I must admit, I tend to like a warmer sound. Though the fact that you can turn off you sub and still get good sound, makes it sound good. I was thinking I was going to run these things (or some other components) off the headunit for a bit before I bought an amp, but it looks like I may just need to buy components and hold them till I get an amp. I really like the Arc Audio 4150XXK, but **** it's expensive. I want to get a 3 or 4 channel to run the components and a sub. Simple one amp system.

Yeah, definately get an external amp to power the SLCs...or any components for that matter. The amp in the HU won't do them proper justice.

i just got mine and i love them the highs are great tweeter is loud but not harsh and sounds very clean. Midbass is lacking slightly but i think that might be b/c i dont have my highpass on the amp set right

My honest opinion? Im not happy with them.

I have very little midbass/kickbass. And it just does not sound clean to me.

The tweets ARE harsh to me. Could be due to placement but I just dont like how bright they seem. I have them at -6dB. Havent noticed a difference between 0dB and -6dB either. Currently my subwoofers are disconnected. The only speakers running are the components off a Hifonics 6006 amp. It says 150watts rms but they do overate some, in any case it should sound better. I ran 14ga from the trunk to the front cabin space to the Crossover, then 16ga wire from the front cabin space/crossover to the door/speakers. The crossovers are tucked into the dash.

Could be my car, it's woofer placement is kindof funny

Could be the fact that im using a LOC, I dont know. So far I just do not like the lack of midbass. Few songs sound good. even less sound great. At times they do sound decent but the gains are set low so theres not alot of volume right now. I've been tweaking my settings all weekend. Maybe im having cancellation issues due to phase being out of whack. I need to check my +'s and -'s. I recently relocated the LOC to the trunk(Factory amp was in the trunk, so all wires head there) Previously I had it spliced in under the rear seat. Does the LOC need to be as close to the HU as possible?

I might try buying a Somewhat cheap HU and ditching the LOC and seeing if that cleans up my output. Still reserving judgement. But as it stands my brothers older Mazda Millenia with its stock stereo setup has massively better bass/midbass/kickbass/midrange. Personally my older kenwood excelon coaxials and clarion amp sounded better in my POS jeep.

you need a better source. the midbass is pretty good in my setup IMO.

installation plays such a huge role on how speakers perform.

Could also be my doors. I deadened them to hell but that might have had an adverse effect for one single reason. The speakers mount on the plastic door panel, not the door frame itself. And the way its positioned it's almost in it's own little basket/space. Meaning that its not running IB it's running sealed or almost sealed.

You need an adequate, solid baffle for an IB speaker.

As far as kickbass drivers go, they basically are made to excel in an IB application and dont necessarily need a certain sized airspace to perform optimally- the constant q motor on the drivers allow the speaker to basically adapt to its installation after break in period and pump out the midbass.

Hmmm, I have narrowed down my choices to the SLCs and some Crystal SSCS6's. I'm still not sure which to get, but it will be a while before I can buy them. I hear good things about both. The Crystals are fairly cheap, at $180 or so. But, I don't know how much I can get some SLC's for... What's the going rate now days for them?

got mine for 230 shipped. I've read the crystals can be had for 160 shipped.
