A-Pillar Tweeter Pods Build Up

i decided to put the tweets in the pillars. a co-worker of mine helped me out on doing this. first we decided on how to aim the tweets then we drilled the holes in the pillars to house the pvc pipe. here's how that turned out:

So then onto the filler part. I've never really extensively messed with body filler before so i guess this is my first time ever using it. My God what a PITA to work with. But it's okay, as i sand sand sand and sand, i go "it'll all be worth it." lol. Here's the picture of the 3rd layer of filler.

Here's the fifth layer of filler and sanded: OH BTW, cheese grinder is my new best friend :).

I'm still not sure how to finish off the pillars. either paint or vinyl. I'm gonna go vinyl shopping tomorrow so i'd like a vinyl texture that is very thin so it'll be easily appliable. oh well thats it for now. any tips/comments/constructive criticism is always welcome. more to come..

Are you serious on the cheese grinder? Good idea actually.

The tweets look to be about eye level then? What if you don't like them there...will you cry because you just ruined your A pillars?

Looks good so far. Might have to subcontract you out for some of my custom work...hell if I want to do all that sanding!! :D

Looks good bud. Yes cheese graters do work quite well for the initial take down, unfortunately not for finishing. Did you try different positions/angle with the tweets prior to starting or just threw em in? Just curious to the results..

yea the cheese grinder was just used to get the contour that i wanted. then i used regular sand paper to get the finish that i wanted. although i'm still not done.

as far as angling, i did have these tweets on the dash before and did experiment with different angles and i felt that having the tweeters pointing straight across overall gave the best results. having the tweets pointing inward towards the cabin, the driver side was much too harsh and tough to image. especially having metal domes, it didn't sound the best. i actually didn't angle it towards the windshield so i can't really tell you. i liked it much better having pointed straight at each other. the off axis for the lotus tweet is pretty good and i heard no harshness that i heard when the tweets were pointing inward.

obviously probably not pointing straight at each other but that was the goal. lol. i'm sure they are few a degrees off.

i went w/ the a-pillar install because i couldn't get the height that i wanted. but the gay thing was, after i started the a-pillar install i finally got it to the height that i could live with in the kicks, lol. dam you car audio. oh well.
