View Full Version : worklog, boxbuild, pics... four cw12's

ok, so after a lot of research and patience, i am finally ready to get going with my box design/build. i will be building two seperate boxes, to stack on top of one another, similar to neverenuffbass's in his durango... each box will be 5.75 cubic feet after all displacements, tuned to 35hz, holding two massive audio cw12's with 100 sq of port per box. so total there will be 200sq of port and four cw12's powered by an MA Audio hk4000d. here are a few pics of the subs, and the start of a project i have been anxious about for a while now...

update: ok, so im an idiot. when designing the boxes.. i forgot to take into account the fact that the bottom box will in fact fit at 30" deep, the rear hatch on my jeep goes inward as it gets closer to the roof, where there is no way 30" deep will fit, at most 25" wil fit. so right now i am redesigning the boxes to be 25" deep and have one port of 100 sq, trying to see what i can save from what i've already cut and whatnot...

So I'm guessing this is going to be a wall behind your rear seat? Can't wait to see.

ok, its been a couple days, but i been mad busy, and to top it all off, i forgot, and this is a warning to all new builders such as me, MEASURE TWO, THREE, A THOUSAND TIMES before you cut, i left out a step, talked about in detail a few posts up, and i had to redesign the entire thing. well, here is what i have so far, hopefully ill get it double baffled later today and the top put on it... and in the pics with the port, its not in yet, just mocked up for picture purposes

nah, it leaves about 3 inches clearance, the rear hatchs opening isnt as tall as the ceiling, so i had to make it fit where i could take it in and out... BTW... just finished baffles, should have pics up soon

well, basicly cuz the lip makes it a snug fit between the rear seats and the rear hatch, that way the box wont slide, rather than bolting it to the floor

Yeah I see your from Nashville. I had a few red light battles when I was going to school there.

I don't mean SPL as far as competition. You are actually going to be muffling your sound with the box being as tall as is it is.

but if i turn it around... the two subs on the bottom will be totally behind the seat.. and the top subs will be partly behind it

xluben

flip the seat down :)

but seriously, since it's not a wall (not sealed off) i don't think it'll be too bad facing backwards.

just think about people with large boxes in trunks. i know there's probably no more than an inch of space anywhere around my box (and it has to go through the rear deck and back seat).

well, here it is... the final product. the subs face the front, with the amp being mounted on the back of the amp in the rear. i MIGHT try facing the subs up to see how it sounds, but we'll see, anyways, here it is.

Is your polarity right on the drivers? If you stick a 9-volt, or your cordless drill battery on the input terminals on the box, do all the drivers move in the same direction?

Depending on where you are in Nashvegas, I could help you figure something out in the next few days.

now that i turned the box to the front, it is MUCH MUCH MUCH better. like night and day. but still just a bit low, not much though, its probly inthe 150 area. i may look into selling my amp and investing in a more powerful one. maybe 2 2500d's ;)

i hooked them all up the exact same way, and when it first wasnt loud enough, my first thought was to check the polarity, and one of them was off, so i fixed that and turned the box around, MUCH better now :)

thanks man for all your help. but i dont know how to wire them, i see it in the manual so i know where to connect the wires... but if i wired them down to .5 like i would for a normal one amp setup, and connected it to two amps, would it still act as .5 ohms or would it bridge that between the amps for a .25 total load?

so if they are rating the amplifier power using a 1khz signal how is that going to affect the power rating when playing below 80Hz? so what im realy asking, is the power of the amp going to decrease when played at lower freqs?
they are stating that the amp would put its max or rms output power at 1khz. how could that be use as refrence for subfreqs?
