View Full Version : Worklog for Lckmyblls, dual tuning options

IonSQL
09-03-2006, 12:32 AM
OK, after many box builds, this is my first worklog :)

Box is being built for Lckmyblls, featuring a removable slot port to allow for adjustable tuning.... one insert will make the final enclosure volume 3.65Hz tuned to 50Hz, and the other one will make it 3.5cf tuned to 35Hz for daily driving.

Box is 36.5"w x 18.5"d x 14.5"h...

Going into the box are a pair of 12" db Drive Platinums.

Had a crappy morning so got started really late, but here is the progess so far. Will finish tomorrow and provide more pics!

He does great work. This looks to be no different. BTW, the 2 Flatlines are phenomenal in that box. Very tight with good low end extension.

Glad to hear it Mike!

Thanks for the comments so far guys, this is going to be a fun build...

Did you use a tablesaw to cut that?

IonSQL
09-03-2006, 01:09 AM
yeah, crappy 10" POS tablesaw :D Hopefully later this year I'll be able to buy something nicer, but I do what I can with what I've got for now....

Whats the best blade to use to get the best cuts?

IonSQL
09-03-2006, 01:13 AM
I'm using a 60 tooth carbide blade.... really happy with the cuts it makes. Don't recall the brand of the blade though, Dewalt maybe?

baseballer1100
09-03-2006, 01:17 AM
Yeha i just need a new blade im getting some pretty f'ed up cuts. Doesnt seem to strong.

IonSQL

Definitely made a difference for me!

baseballer1100
09-03-2006, 01:27 AM
Is it flimsy at all? Cause i think thats whats causing mine to do what it does.

IonSQL
09-03-2006, 01:31 AM
The blade flimsy? No, it's pretty sturdy.... about 1/8" thick I believe. The one I had before was like 1/16", the board was able to push the blade around during the cut, it was terrible!

if you have a wimpy motor you can go with a smaller blade diameter size. and it will ripp allot faster and more torque.

147.9 from my trunk in my grand am.....its a standard slot port box with port in middle of subs all the back in the trunk with subs facing the back seat (louder this way by .9db)
this box will put the subs on the passenger side and port on drivers side i should gain quite a bit plus the tuning......

work looks great!

just wondering, why isn't the port all the way against the side of the box?

is the sub really going to be able to 'see' the airspace on the other side of the port?

I made it a small distance away from the side so that air COULD flow around the port.... it's not the full height of the inside of the box, so will actually flow around it.... nothing is blocking it.

IonSQL

Thanks again guys.... don't know why I haven't done a worklog before, this is fun LOL

As for sealing the port, I'm usuing weatherstrip on the face of the port baffle, should stay airtight :)

Price of this box was $250, typical prices are $125-175 for sealed, and $180-$220 for ported, more or less depending on the particular box.

and no TCAB! :D I know my limits.... once those limits are reached for a particular weekend, I won't take another one. I'd love to be able to do this stuff full time (boxes, installation, glass, etc.) and quit my crappy job with the 90 minute commute, but until then it's 2-3 boxes a week :)
