I heard the Crystals are excellent and can be had for $160 but **** if I can find where. That's the high end of what I want to spend so looking for used good pieces if anyone has any 6.5 comps like MB, CDT, Orion, JL, ID, etc...

Of these new ones on E-Bay that fit the budget which is best:

Since it is a Cavalier I am thinking an all in one would be better instead of trying to place the tweet. If only I could find used CDT Braxials.

Couple more:

Those have a nice smooth, almost soft sound to them. Not extrememly life like, but they are nice for the $$$.

95stroked1500 on this forum will get you the crystals I PM'd him. I know she isn't going to get a real good quality set for < $100 so the $150 range seems right to me. Anything you think will sound more like the CDT's I have in the Honda for that price? Crystals look like the best option so far. I will do a review comparing my 5.25" CDT HD's to her 6.5's when done.

If you can wait the new ED 6000 v2 set will be out soon and they have a coaxial mount option.

Thanks for all the help from everyone here!

Today is decision and buying day. Working behind the scenes here it comes down to three new sets: CDT EF-61's, Rainbow SLC265's and Crystal SSCS6's. Of those three which gets the nod?

If it were me, I'd flip a coin between the Rainbows and the Crystals.

My thoughts too. I heard you need 7 1/4" mounting area for the Crystals and I think they are rather deep. Trying to get info on whether they will fit in a 1995 Cavalier's door or not. That may decide it for me!

I'm pretty sure you have that mounting depth wrong. I think that's the mounting diameter. I would definately go with either the Crystals, or the Rainbows. I say go with the Crystals, and then when you install them, let me know how they sound. I am looking at Crystals. Actually, I'm looking at the Rainbow SLCs AND the Crystals. Tough decision....

Mounting depth for the SSCS6's is 3.1 inches. Taken from Crystal's web site....

he might be confusing mounting diameter with the depth. 7.25 is the external diameter for the speakers.

the mounting depth in cavalier doors is not much at all, i had to build i baffle to get my hd-6's to fit in:

How does it sound?

your going to have a very hard time fitting anything behind there... trust me i tried. sounds pretty good, i just wish i placed the tweeters better as the soundstage is a bit low

Any idea on just exactly how much clearance you have to the rear to mount something? Wonder how deep the stock 4x6's go? As for the tweet could you have cup mounted it and place it on the A-pillar or dash? I have given the Braxials some thought too. What do you think about them? Angle the tweet where you want.

darren700

with my baffle its just over 3" stock im not sure, but the 4x6's were only like 1.5" deep. i could have mounted the tweet somewhere else but i made the mistake of mounting them where i did...

I was thinking about your install some more. According to Crutchfield's test of door space they have 2.81" mounting space to the rear. The specs on the HD-62's driver is 2.75" mounting depth:

http://www.cdtaudio.com/pdf/HD-6.pdf

Should barely clear but maybe the problem you ran into was the 6.75" diameter to the edge???

Need to get a couple more specs on these:

But don't see why with these in place the fit doesn't work and still fit behind the factory panel

darren700
09-07-2006, 05:47 PM
those have to be wrong, or they didnt include it with the window down... and unless you want to hack away at your door frame with a carbide cutter ur gonna have to build a baffle to get the speaker in there... my baffle ending up pushing the door trim out about .75" which prevented me from putting in the christmas trees

Intercooler

I went by the audio shop today to see if what Crutchfield said is right and my audio guy said he thought the dimensions they gave were if you left everything as-is. If you cut the baffle out, etc... He gave me a site where it is the TRUE max you can get in. Crutchfield says my Civic is 2" where I already have a 2.54" driver and after looking behind the panel I am moving up to a 3". This site said I had 3.5" to play with which is what we actually see and agree with.
