well now that the costs of my system are settled its time to look into performance. AEM intake is on the way so the next thing is exhaust. i dont want a rice burner, i dont even want one thats loud. a nice low mellow sound would be great but i doubt i can get that from a 4 cylinder. so is there an aftermarket exhaust thats actually quiet?

only aftermarket exhaust that sounds like stock is the rsr. as for low look at things like magnaflow but itll be loud. as for annoying but decent gains look at a rice brand like greddy or nopi.

i really dont know which exhaust im looking at. thats why i asked. all i know is i dont want a nasty sounding exhaust. my friend has magnaflow on his jetta and it sounds pretty ricey, even though magnaflow is a reputable company and he probally gained 5-10 hp

i have a magnaflow on mine and it sounds just as deep as a 6cyl buttt its loud so thats the bad part

from that small of an engine unless you turbo it or do a full 3" dp and all that ****, you won't gain but maybe 2-6whp. i'd say magnaflow but i've never heard them on a 4 cylinder that wasn't turbo'd. other than that maybe greddy but they can be loud.

do no muffler...take off the resonators and do straight pipe if you want that true engine sound, if you dont want it to loud just do the pipe but leave the resonators on

honestly just save your money. i did a full 2.5 exhaust staight pipe and intake and really dont notice a difference at all. in fact i have a shittier take off. but in my case i had to because i was running rich. i do race and thats where i did see a major difference of almost a second off my original time. so if its your daily save the money a) you will get annoyed no mater how mellow the sound is b) saved money c) no gains until top end which you wont see much.

yeah i'm in the process of having a set of headers, 3" downpipe and dual 2.5" exhaust tips made for my Mazda6. I'm hoping to add a good bit of HP with that as it's costing me a good chunk of change.

honestly, what i would do is get the muffler you want, then goto an exhaust shop, have them mandrel bend you some pipes for your car from the cat back, then have them make you a "test pipe". You will save yourself alot of money that way.

And a testpipe is a replacement for the cat, its just a straight pipe. You'll be testing it for the life of the vehicle im sure.

i hope you're talking about shaving a second off a lap time on a road course because a second off a quarter mile time is extremely significant.

no im talking about 1/4 mile. but i also had the car tuned, messed with the timing, took off a/c, and took out all my stereo ****.

bumpin_blazer
08-30-2006, 06:41 PM
unless you added a turbo or something i still don't see how a tune with just exhaust will reduce 1 second. well maybe if you were running 16's i could see it.

rick22

wow are you kidding first off i lost close to 500lbs, i advanced the timing quite a bit, losing the a/c is a rediculous help plus going from 15.3-14.2 is not a hard acheivement.

Take your car to the local reputable exhaust place. Tell the tech. not the guy at the counter, EXACTLY what you want. And they will hook you up.

08-30-2006, 07:52 PM
... okay, thats a hell of alot more then just getting a new exhaust. Thats like putting on drag slicks and saying i increased my time just by replacing my tires!

rick22
08-30-2006, 08:57 PM
haha yeah i know but i had no clue how much just the exhaust and intake helped so i just lumped it all together.

500lb of audio in an accord? wtf did you have in there 4 shocker's 18"s?

so basically you went .5 better due to losing 500 pounds, .1-.2 better from the a/c, timing, and other mods, and the last .4 or so was from the weather...

yeah.

unless you run back to back, it's hard to estimate how much quicker your car actually is due to weather/track conditions/etc.

believe me, first time I went to the track I was in the 14s...I almost cried until I realized that I could SEE the haze down at the other end of the track...the DA was in the low 29s as well.

bad day. went back a few weeks later and kicked off a MUCH better time, shaving over a second off my previous time...this was with NO mods or anything else done to the car other than maybe 100-150 in weight reduction.
