Ok, I have narrowed it down to these two speakers.

I want opinions from you guys and tell me which you think is better and why. Price is not an issue between the 2....Polks for $180 or Crystal's for $160. They will be powered with a Pheonix Gold 4:0.2 Amp which is at least 125wrms a side. I just want to know what speaker you guys think is better. I listen to all rap and like the tweeter to be warm, no harsh stuff at all. Good midbass and midrange are a plus.

Thanks guys....shoot away.

I can assure you with the polks you will indeed get a 180.00 set of speakers
nice sounding and pleasent to listen too
but
with the crystals you will get a set of speakers that sound like they cost 300-400 bucks but for the meager price of less than the polks

make your decision but either way that PG amp you will be using for your comps
wont do either brand of speaker justice as its a POS

have a nice day

As in it wont put out anywhere near its rated power? Or what?

What would you recommend for a cheap (in price) 100-125wrms per side amp?

I finally got my mmc6500 in this weekend and all I can say is they sound great. I am really happy. The only problem is they sorta took away some of my sub but the midbase is incredible. I have heard good things about the crystal also but the mounting debth was to much for my application. I really don't think you could go wrong with either one.

Get some pics!!! The crystals do come with a 1" spacer as well. The Momo's look beastly depth wise. Is this true?

jacka

the mmc's have a smaller mounting depth. and the crystal's external diameter is about 7.25

Will it work with a 6.5" enclosure?

Wrong. Unless you're getting custom ohm configs on the Crystals or Polks, 125 aint happening.

Ok, well Shon @ ROE told me PG does rated...so I'm not sure what it actually does, but I trust Shon. I'm looking at buying a better amp, but I don't have much more to spend than $140-150 on an amp.

the crystals will take upwards of 150+ watts, and I have heard as much as 250 per ch.......
They are a great little speaker that can and do take bunches of power.
100 watts is prolly ok but if you really wanna boogie on down get a big
amp that does its rating

fairly cheap, you can find them on ebay.

Yep, the PG Xenons are tremendous amps. eBay should have a few listings for just about every model at any given moment.

I was in the exact same position as you. I had it narrowed down to the Polk MMc6500's or the Crystal SSCS's until I got to know what the Alpine Type X's are all about. I bit the bullet and ended spending more than I was originally planning on for the front comps, but I'm glad I did.

However, if my budget and timeline wasn't so flexible, then I probably would have had to flip a coin beteeen the Polks and Crystals. That being said, I was able to audition the Momo's and they do sound great. I would not pay $300 B&M retail for them, but for $160-180 as is common across a lot of internet e-tailers, they are a great bargain.

I was only considering the Crystals because I've read so many positive things about them. Wish I could offer personal experience about them, but the nearest retailer to me is about 2.5-3 hours away, so I did not have the opportunity to audition them.

Either set of comps would probably really enjoy being attached to an X200.2 with the gains adjusted accordingly.

I am probably getting the Crystals because I am getting them for $130 + shipping.

Wont 200wrms a side be a little too much? The only deadening I have is a Dynamat Xtreme speaker kit, so I dont really need ALL that power, and will the speaker take it?

a 200.2 Xenon would work well on the crystals,I have heard peeps running allot more than 200w to the comps....
Becarful of buying any Xenon amp as they have a tendency to go into protect mode, perminatly so if you have no warrenty your toast - mine died in 5 days.
It worked pretty good while it lasted and I did eventually get a replacment model
because I was dealing with a stand up Ebay seller
but while I was dealing with all that I ended up buying a DA5600.2 instead and sold off the X200.2 and vowed to never buy a PG product again after I found out how many had similar issues

Kicker06, you are correct about the RMS of the SSCS6's. I just got a reply from CMS:

You can safely use 150 watts rms continuous power into the SSCS 6. If you limit the low frequency content sent to the SSCS 6 woofer then you can use higher power. We have tested the woofer used as a mid-bass (100-2,000 Hz) with 500 watts and had no problems but if you are sending frequencies below 100 Hz then limit the power to 150 watts.

Best regards.

NEVER buy anything from that site that has those crystals.

1- he is not authorized to get crystal. he's getting them back door from a shop.
2- he claims to have sscs 5.25's. and tried to say he had 6 sets on the shelf. which is 100% BULL SHI because crystal has never made them yet!
3- the dealer who is back dooring the product got a call from crystal for their actions.

taun has the best price. BUT, i pm'd him about what he's doing for warranty and i guess he didn't think that was important enough to respond to me on the issue.

I have the Crystals and absolutely love them. I have them crossed at 90 hz and after trying out about 4 amps, I stuck with a Kicker 850.2(295 a side). I have the gains set carefully and they sound great. THey do need a decent amount of power to sound good. BTW: I bought mine from the site listed above an got them the day after I ordered since IKesound didnt have them in stock.

ikesound pulled a fast one on crystal and there was some misleading info given from them. they only got 1 shipment of limited stock and are getting NO MORE. they already got kicked to the curb.

that guy (egay scammer) has access to crystal. but i wouldn't get squat from him. he's a proven liar and you can't trust a liar period. even if he comes through once, he's still a scammer. i know he has a good ebay rating. but insisting to have speakers that were never made......... what's he really made of. order a set of sscs 5.25's that he claims to have and see what you get.

on the other note,
taun is authorized. check crystal's dealer listings. any dealer can legitimately sell crystal any where, any how. crystal is not a territorial protected brand.

I think you'll be disappointed if you do less than 150 a side of clean power. I went through a MTX 120x2, Orion 4002, Rockford 550s before finally getting the sound I want with the Kicker. Its not just about getting them the power, but its making sure its clean power. Get a 200x2 amp(Orion 8002 comes to mind from Ike for $149+ship refurb, but its up to you if you want to use them) so you'll have a little headroom. The only way I would go with less power is if you plan on running them crossec very low or full range, and yes they sound GREAT!!!

no, thats not what i'm talking about. in the manual that's what they state for the 400.2 specs, 132 x 2. they don't say anything about actual power, but diamond won't overrate their equipment.
