can you be a lil more vague? Are you looking for "high end"? "Cheap"? "Exotic"?

What are they being used in? Powered by?

If you want "non-mainstream", about the most-popular thing going right now is DIY. Mix and match speakers, design your own component set.

Though I'm curious as to why you specifically want to go "non-mainstream"? And what brands classify as "mainstream"? My idea of "mainstream" may be different than yours. Heck, I would consider almost every brand mentioned so far to be "mainstream".

actually im looking for brands that most people wouldnt here of or even see in magazines. like re, ia, adire, etc. here in hawaii all of the audio shops never herd of them and i want to have a complete install of brands that almost no one has. just looking for the ones that dont really advertise or just go by word of mouith i guess.

yes very true, most of the brands mentioned here are "mainstream" within the car audio world. but i'm guessing "mainstream" in your definition are brands that are carried in best buy, circuit city, fry's, etc.

quality brands that are not really heard of. to me, kicker, jl, mtx, pg, soundstream, memphis, etc. . those are mainstream to me. but brands like adire, re, ia, mpyre, critical mass, and so on are not. only because not to many people heard of them, and they arereally good.

Rainbow?

:D

Rainbow is pretty "mainstream" on this forum. lol But, not to the average Joe consumer.

But, in the $300-$400, they would be my selection. :naughty:

I don't know, his products may have been the finest around for all I know. However, the thought of some guy sitting around making his own crossovers always seemed kinda bizzare to me.

It's not like the crossovers make themselves....even the crossovers that come with speakers you buy in the store were built by "some guy sitting around".

Many people have done the research and have the knowledge to properly design a passive crossover on their own, and the resources the buy the necessary components for those crossovers.

he actually knows quite a bit and did a good job. but when he went on to build his own speakers etc. etc. i dont think he realized it wasn't as easy as it seems. i dont doubt he'll actually make some very good products in time. Very bright guy.
