Hey guys here's a build up thus far of my box that will host 2 10'' JL w3v3's. I built the box to JL spec. The box was simple to build, the faceplate is a different story.:up2somet: The faceplate required back and forth testing and cutting:crazy: . I'm happy with the result thus far. I sold my 10'' w6 for these 2 new w3v3's that will be coming in the mail. They will be powered by a 500/1.:p: Everything has gone fine with the box except when I attach the faceplate to the box. I am not able to get the structure to sit properly in the trunk. So unfortunately I will have to carpet the box inside my trunk because I need to screw the faceplate into the box while its in the trunk (put the box and faceplate in separately) and then put the carpet over the screws and all:crying: The only thing I am not completely happy about is the comestic look of the 9'' cutout's, Although they are 9'' all around. Anyhow the speaker will cover all that up and it will look clean. Also I didn't think about how low the speakers would sit, but I guess its fine.:eyebrow: I'm going to fill the box with poly-fill. Is this a good idea? Also how do I wire together my speakers so that I can have them coming out of one terminal out the back. The speakers should be a here in a few days. Stayed tuned. And please leave your input.:naughty:

Well, this would will be my 5th box in one year going into my trunk.

I've got a question for you. I know four people with that gen accord, and it's a mother to install into the head unit. How'd you do it?

Nexson
07-26-2006, 12:00 AM
The audio shopped used a LOC from the stock headunit, From there the rca's go into the LOC to the amp.

You have to tell us the coil configuration of the speakers. You will be wiring the two speakers together inside the box, and you'll only have one + and - wire coming out.

looks great!

how did you trace out the vanity baffle?

what model/year accord is that?
what upgrades have you done to it?

Nexson
08-03-2006, 01:04 AM
yea, Ill see about the amp, maybe once I get my 300/4 I'll think about adding those. Maybe ill add both amps to the top of the box panelsince I have so much room. Hmmm I like that idea heh.

For the baffle, I just got a piece of wood that was in a rectangle form and kept test fitting it back and forth. I should of used cardboard for the test fit, but I wasn't thinking. The actual piece wasn't long enough so I needed to add about 2 inches on each side on the top to make it all fit in the grooves. i love the result!

As for the car is a 2dr lx accord 05 coupe, with a ton of mods hehe take a look.

Thanks guys, I have only heard one w3v2 alone and it sounded pretty good, these two w3v3's pretty much blow that w3v2 out of the water. The 500/1 does much more for these w3's then it ever did for the w6. With the w6 I couldn't set the gains high due to clippin, yuck, these are the cleanest sounding subs I have ever heard.

Couple Questions.
1. I eventually will be getting a 300/4. I will be running a 4guage wire to both amps, whats a good way to split the wire?

2. I am experiencing heavy static on some stations, due to my amp, I know this because I disconnected my power line and I get a clean signal, do they make anything to correct the static that is coming from the amp/system. Thanks again

1. I would run either 2ga or 0ga from the battery to a distribution block. From the block in the trunk run your 4ga to your amps.

Question- How did you get that rear facia peice in the trunk of your car in one peice? I have my trunk setup almost identical in my bimmer but I had to cut my facia peice in half in order for it to fit in the trunk opening. If I decide to cover it with anything other than carpet, you can see the gap and it looks like ****.

hey man, look at this pic. In order to get the baffle in the trunk i had to cut the lower left and right and fit it in, then the sides on the top were too short, So with my extra wood, i cut and fit the piece on too the wood. I used scraps of wood glued on the back to secure the wood and for one instance used a couple screws and brackets. In order for there to be no crease when the carpet was added from the gaps from adding the extra wood. I took wood filler and put it between the gap then sanded it down so it was one piece, you can see this on the corners of this pic.

hmm for the w3's i would get 2 500/1 or 1 1000/1 to push them...they like the added power
just make sure u play a 50hz test tone and disconnect the subs and set your gains until u see 22.4 volts on both 500/1 or 31.6 volt for the single 1000/1 on your dmm

HEH THANKS GUYS. Im going to go work on the tweeters now, but I have a question for amp selection. I need a 2ch amp that can power my rainbow slc 265's. Whats a good 2ch amp that will be able to handle those front components and not kill my wallet?

i like your install allot. very clean and simple design. i was just wondering why didnt you center the subs with the top and bottom of the trunk, they look like they are sitting a little lower to the ground. but looks nice like that.

i wouldnt sugest a cap or another battery. i think you should upgrade your alternator instead. a second battery will by an extra load on an allready stressing alternator, make sure you do the big 3, if you havent allready.

why not stay with the JL audio theme. when it comes to the amp selection for the front speakers. that way when you do the amp rack if you do. youll have matching amps. added points in a car show. lol plus you may find them in good condition on ebay for cheap. if money is an issue.

hehe thanks man, I orginally didnt have the intention do the baffle, so I started building the box, with what MDF I had in my attic (this whole project was only done because I already had all the materials) so i made the box and it looked fine but then i added the baffle and realized it was gona sit low, so I couldn't anything about it, oh well. anyhow would yall suggest the 30/2 by JL.

thats not looking bad at all. that material your using looks thick enogh not to need any fiberglass mat after it hardens. just some bondo and sand away. lol.

if you mean the 300/2, yes!. that will give you allot of power, so plenty of over head to play with. and clean sound. wich is the plus side on the slash series.

did you install the rainbow 6.5 in a glass enclosure or just in the stock door location?

Nexson
08-03-2006, 10:40 PM
heh, actually im save up my funds and i should have the rainbows in about a week, I got the spec off the rainbow tweeter offline, here the almost finished product, just need to get the special spray tomorrow and im good to go!

from here im going to sand with 600 grit, then re-prime and then spray with a black "very light texture" which is like a plastic coating and will fill in any slight dips. Enjoy!

youre going in the right direction with it. but i would say you have to get all them bump to a minimum with a 60-80 grit sand paper, then use some bondo or gold rage to fill in any inperfections. then sand some more with 150-200 then 400 till you cant see any scratches from the sand paper then prime then use the texture spray,
other wise its looking good.

if youre going to repaint it, you have to resand until all those waves, dips and every thing that looks wrong when you prime it off. i like the black paint look you gave it just need to make sure that the fiberglass is almost perfect before you paint thats why is so hard to work with fiberglass. but im sure you can get them pods just right, youre almost there.

vinyl may not show as many inperfections as paint, but it will still show defects unles you use some sort of backing on it.

keep us updated, i realy want to see how the pods come out.

Man, There has been a issue with the grills, orginally I called my local JL dealer and the lady said she was going to get them for me(this was week and half ago) special since they only order them in packs of like 4. I only need 2. I would usually just order the grills off the JL site, but it said out of stock, so I called up. Well the lady said she was still trying to get them and I should have them by friday, well friday came and went, so now its Tuesday and I called for the same lady and she's now on vacation, and in the mean time the website now has the grills in stock. But im not going to order through the website because they are probably in stock because the lady ordered a bunch and 2 of them are for me. This is killin me tho, heh I dont really want to put anything in my trunk, check back for updated pics of the grills and the tweeter in the pod!

Updated Pics. I just put a cap top in there so ya'll can get a visual. Tweeters should be here around wednesday. The tweeter has a small mounting bezel around it, so it clean up everything.

I need a suggestion on where to put the amps in the trunk

PowerNaudio
08-23-2006, 06:36 PM
i was going to say raise the floor but with the subs sitting so low i dont think you can. how big is the amp. can you fit it on the side panels of the trunk?, how about on the trunk lid? it may get hot. but fans will bring the temp down.

im not sure if shud just keep them hidden to keep the clean look, but the thing is, they are a 500/1 and 300/4 not by any means a ugly amp.

PowerNaudio
08-24-2006, 09:57 AM
true that, i love the look of the slash series amp. i love to show mine off.
you can keep it clean as long as you flush mount the amps and do like a plexiglass cover. with fans underneath for cooling.
put them in the spare tire well. if you have room. most spare tires seat a good 3" from the top of the trunk floor. that allows you to not have to raise the floor and keep the spare tire in place.

hm, so Im getting my 300/4 in tomorrow and I already have my 500/1, so Why hide them. I came up with this cool space saving method to show off my amps in a subtle way.
Ok so where the blue area is pictured, will be cut out, and will be replaced with a sheet of plexiglass from the back. from there the amps will just be mounted to the top side of the box. so when lookin thru the trunk you'll see the amps thru the plexi-glass, and I'm sure Ill have a CC lighting up everything.

Yay or Nahhhh??

Hey guys, I have a question, since i got my 300/4 hooked up I noticed the delay is like 4 seconds before the amp gets the signal and turns on the speakers? anyway to fix that? I have a remote going to both amps off an un-used moonroof output.

Also. I noticed when the music volume is about at 1/4 the amp kicks off, i think this has to do to with signal sensing, how do i fix this?

not sure, but your remote from the loc may need to be switched over to a relay that will inturn get the 12v signal from the battery to the amps remote.

do you have the model number for the loc.

kicker06
09-17-2006, 10:10 PM
My sub does that.

It takes 2-3 seconds for the bass to kick in after I turn on my Headunit..No big deal, well to me it isn't anyway.

Nexson
09-17-2006, 10:37 PM
im running the remote from the un-used moonroof, it doesnt annoy me that it takes about 4 secs for everythign to come on, what annoys me is that if i put it low, it turns off, i gotta put it back up at like 50% for it to turn back on.

PowerNaudio
09-17-2006, 10:46 PM
have you tryed raising the gain on the loc to see if it stop doing that. you may be droping the voltage to much on the rcas output of the loc to the point that it shuts down when it gets below a volume level since youre now runing multiple amps off of it.

Nexson
09-17-2006, 11:00 PM
hm doesnt seem to be a gain switch on the loc

well yeah unfortunaly no gain control on that loc model. and it needs at least 10watts to actualy start converting the signal im sure it works with less. but here is what i think is happenening.

since it uses the hu speaker voltage and current to convert the signal into a voltage signal on the rcas. for your amps. if it usualy gives out lets say at 1/4volume. a 3v signal to a single amp. then adding amps. to that same rca line. will add a load to loc that so each amp wont get 3volts any more. and as you lower your volume the less signal your amps will see, till there is no signal at the amps input. so you can ither get a better loc that has gain adjustments and all the other goodies. or change the sensitiviti setting of the amp via the swithch it to read a lower input signal. and adjust the gains on the amp acordingly.

hope it helps.

Nexson

well heres the thing man, signal sensing is turned on, but when i turn it off, the amps dont play, like there is nothing. I think the problems lies within the signal sensing

**** man i havnt been on this forum in a min, i shoulda been following this thread for a while. I have a 2006 Accord coupe, and i've got just a box sittin back there, false floor with the amps through plexi. I was wondering what you think about the facia and whether or not it affects the bass goin into the car. I went without a rearstage and dampened heavily around the empty spots to allow for movement. Do you think it'd be worth it to do a facia like that?

Nexson
09-19-2006, 08:31 PM
hell yea, dude $4 from lowe's you get the sheet of "facia" 1/4 wood thats simple to cut. and well la, doesnt affect sound at all.

well, like I said before the ultra white lights are only 8 bucks each, if i dont like the way they look, i will use them else where in the car, then maybe change to a soft black light or whatever it maybe. I kinda did want contrasting lights.

None of the wires would be showing. Looks like there's at least 1/4" from the face to where the power terminal is so you would mount it flush like the subwoofer. Tune before you finalize the install?
