You shouldve done the port the height of the enclosure and used it as a brace.Unless you can fit some wood between the gap there

i would've designed it that way but then the port wouldve needed to be too long to get it to be 35 Hz......the box will be braced with wooden dowels

Eldorado
07-03-2006, 01:42 AM
Just throw some wood under there so it sits flush. Dowels are a pain.
Its more surface area anyways

with the dowels it will be braced every which way though lol.....and i dunno how much doing it the way u suggested would throw off tuning....i already accounted for the dowels

i need to learn how to use one, i have a router...do you know what bit number would be? or what its name would be on the package, im gonna go buy one tomorrow cause you said some thing and use it on my next box... :)

it's amazing what routers can do.
when buying bits, just make sure they're the same size shank as your router, most likely 1/4". as for the names of the bits, there are plenty. but for box building, it think you'll only need a roundover bit, a rabbet bit 1/4" (for carpeting), and a upcut/downcut bit (for cutouts)

Eldorado
07-06-2006, 05:20 AM
I bought bits and returned them becaues i was a cheapskate.
I said the shank was to small...no i just lied

You can still roundover those port edges with a roundover bit...they have bearing guides to follow the edge...you can't F it up. See here (http://www.porter-cable.com/index.asp?e=3399&p=5443)

Eldorado

Word. As far as the router bits go, James Bang was right. Get a 1/2" roundover, a small rabbet bit (I didn't get one as I just used my table saw to do the work) and either a straight cutting bit, or a spiral upcut bit (I use a straight bit).
