^^ Um..no. What you're looking for is talled TruPan. You won't get it regularly at lowes or the like. You'll have to go to a lumberyard.

Correct. There is acutally Trupan Light and Trupan Untralight. The light is what I use, and what we sell where I work. Overall its 80% of the weight of Regular MDF. Ultralight is, I believe, 60% of the weight. Expect to pay a little more. Actually a lot more. I hear people buying MDF from HD and Lowes here for like $15. I believe we sell TP Light for like $35 a sheet. Good think I get a little discount. ;)

Word. Lowes dropped the price of the MDF down from 20 to 17 here. FTW!

Its called HDF , High density Fiberboard. We use it at our shop, we order it from a lumber yard. We order by the pallet and our cost is $26 a sheet. So if your buying by the single sheet I would think it would be around 30-35 a sheet.

Thanks for the replies. Price difference between MDF and Truban is a lot cheaper than upgrading my rear suspension :)

Trupan is created for that purpose. Same qualities as MDF, but lighter weight.

Not dust, but it can chip like a mother****er. It's also 2x + the price.

Doesnt chip if you know how to cut it ;)
Its only $35 for a sheet of oak ply for me :D

Weight kind of is a factor, but the question is, is it as good as regular MDF?

Word. But if you've never used it, chances are good that you don't know how to work with it so it doesn't chip :)

And no, it isn't as good as MDF because it's about the same performance, but costs like 20+ dollars more :D

Most high end HT speaker cabinets are made of birch ply....not MDF
I wonder why :p:

Not to mention that trupan comes in 1.5" as well.

birch ply is a wast of money if you are useing it for a box in a car, which most likely will be covered with carpet or somthing. looks better for HT use.

just get some mdf. you are not gona see a drastic drop in weight, for what ever you do.

Unless it's like a dual chambered box for two 9515s or something retardedly heavy.

tru dat
if im going to cover it in ANY way then mdf is the way to go .
on the other hand if your gonna stain it then birch would look awesome.
the only con to mdf is the weight just uninstalled my WHOLE system and lemme tell ya getting the 48x14x16 3/4" mdf box out was murder ( left subs in like a dumb a$$).
not to mention how much the wagon lifted up after the system was out. i could of sworn i heard my car give a sigh of relief lol
