View Full Version : 04' or 05' G35 or a Brand New Mazda Speed6?

Well as some of you know my Dakota was totalled due to moronic douche not yielding and hitting me so I need a new car. I am torn between a G35 and a Speed6. I can't afford the 34k that a new G35 would be so the new Speed6 is a little more appealing, that and I know the owner of a Mazda dealership here in town so my price won't be the sticker it'll be lower. So my question is would you rather own a 2yr old G35 with anywhere from 20-40k miles on it or a brand new Speed6? I'm leaning more towards the speed 6 but I'd like some opinions. This is a poll so you can just click what you would choose or you can offer up your reason why.

i really like the looks of a new mazda 6, dont know about reliability and such but i like the way they look. also it would have a dealer warranty and such. i also dont like the looks of the g35 at all.

I would TOTALLY go for the Infinity. One reason alone is depreciation, that G35 will be worth it for a lot longer than a Mazda.

Nissan over Mazda
G35 over Mazdaspeed 6

Mainly for reliability, but I sure wouldn't mind having a turbo RX7, I would be fine just looking at it broke down in my driveway, b/c I know it would be broke down in my driveway. Anyhow, the G35 is fun to drive, and will hold up longer than the fordspeed 6.

But really, this isn't like buying a subwoofer you can't hear b/c their is no dealer, or some comps that are only avaible from the forums. Go do your duty as an american and beat up on someone elses cars and see which ones you like. It is the only time you can have fund at a dealership.

I've driven the G and the regular 6, but no mazdaspeed 6. I voted for G anyways.

G35: Handling is great, coupe or sedan, and it makes driving more fun, even when it's a tedious commute. It sounds great and looks great, and probably will keep its value longer. However, it tends to guzzle gas and maintenance is costly.

speed6: cheaper, new, no miles. However, despite the horsepower they massaged out of it, it's still an Inline-4.

omg if u really were even CONTEMPLATING getting a mazda 6 over a g35 then u need to get your mind right lol......

g35 is basically a 350z (same engine)=fast as hell.....

get the g35 if u dont wanna get made fun of

bumpin_blazer
06-27-2006, 03:36 AM
it's an inline 4 that runs a 13.8 stock which is almost 1/2 second faster than even the 06' g35's with the 280hp motor vs the 265 that is in the 04's and older. I've driven a G35 and drove that ****er to hell and back as it was a rental lol. I've driven the hell out of a mazda 6 but not the speed6 yet and love the mazda 6. Yes the G35 does hold resale well that's also the problem lol. 04' g35's go for what i get a brand new speed6 for that's the dilemma.

For anyone baggin' on the inline 4, remember that there are plenty of 4 cylinder engine's out there that can hand you your a** daily;).

g35's are just better made.....speed 6 suspension and handling vs g35's handling....id take the g35

that is b/c you've driven both a speed6 and a g35 sedan right? if not i don't see how you can compare the two.

I said other because you should buy an old corvette.

ive driven both and i can say that the g35 owns the mazda

bumpin_blazer
06-27-2006, 03:49 AM
if you're going to say it owns the mazda please tell me how. it doesn't won in speed i know that for sure, i don't see how a 2wd car with an altima chasis (the 04' g35 had the altima chasis not the 350z as far as i know or thought it did) can outhandle an AWD car. so please go into more detail than it owns the mazda tell me why and how just for peace of mind.

on the old corvette, it'd have to be an 01' or newer and that is a bit higher than i can afford for insurance and i need more than a 2 seater.

keep in mind this is the sedan not coupe so if you're comparing the coupe that doesn't help me any.

bumpin_blazer
06-27-2006, 03:56 AM
i need the sedan for several reasons beyond the fact that i need the trunk space. either way sag i want to know how the g35 owned i know it doesn't in speed and i'm curious on how it handle's better i'll see when i drive one in a few weeks.

i'll have to see for myself as i'm amazed it handle's better. most 2wd vs. a true AWD the AWD has better handling.

either way the biggest plus on the speed6 is it's a 1/2 second faster which speaks loudly to me, that and the cheaper insurance.

Turbo spool > the same exhuast note of the G35, 350z, Murano, and the FX.

I've driven the Mazda 6 6MT V6, and it's decently fast, but the shifter is loose and inacurate.

The Infiniti G35 wins IMO because of it's avaliability in a coupe version, and the sports package comes with Brembos.... MMMM Brembos....

280hp > 276hp w/Turbo Lag.

The G35 coupe is do for a makeover, so you might want to hold off untill then.

Oh my... Just wait.. it'll be worth it.

bumpin_blazer
06-27-2006, 04:09 AM
yeah b/c i have no car and can walk for 2 years lol. again, the coupe isn't an option so i don't see why mentioning it, in this 1 case, pretend the coupe does not exist. you confused the hell out of me saying " I've driven the Mazda 6 6MT V6, and it's decently fast, but the shifter is loose and inacurate." What the hell is a Mazda 6 6mt v6? you combined the g35 6mt and a mazda 6 it sounds like lol. on the note of hp and torque, you're talking 6hp more in the g35 and 10 torque more in the speed6 so it's not much different but the speed6 is somehow .5 second faster.

Mazda speed 6 hands down.

They look nice, they handle nice, they are tested to hell and back. They RARELY have ANY mechanical problems, and those problems are fixed.

Mazda's really do have more thought put into them than people believe.

My neighbor works for mazda as a technical blah blah something expert and was the a key designer in the mazda speed 6, and it really is a quick *** car for a sedan, and it handles very well from what he told me.

bumpin_blazer
06-27-2006, 04:52 AM
arsonbob, ask him how he compare's it to a g35 sedan if he's driven one for me. i'm curious what an expert says about it. i know i've driven a g35 to hell and it was fun and it really does grip the road at 105+ that i have to say.

bumpin_blazer
06-27-2006, 04:58 AM
i'd also like it if sag3 wanted to tell me how it "owned the mazda speed 6". if you're going to tell me that it did i don't care if it was the coupe, tell me how.

you guys voting for the mazda are smoking crack....

think of it this way,

Gussied up Ford Focus (it's actually the other way around)

vs.

350z

hmmmm

200ish hp vs 280hp/280tourqe

RWD (g35) vs FWD (mazda, torque steer - ewwww)

Don't get me wrong the mazda speed is decent but it just doesn't compare

ohh and I've never driven the mazdaspeed version but I worked at a infinity dealership....

a couple parts where you are wrong. 1) it's not a gussied up focus at least definetly not the speed6. 2) not even the v6 version of the mazda 6 only has 200 now it's 215/220 and the speed6 is a 274/280 torque while the G35 is 280hp/270 torque or 298hp/260 torque. 3) The speed6 is AWD not FWD;).

So with that being said your girl is still hot but you were a little off on the specs of the cars;).

Mazda Speed 6 are alot sexier in sedan version...

BUT
if i were u id get an Audi S4 2002 Wagon or Sedan, they look freakin great and are decently fast and interior is awsome, classy/sporty/reliable/german , u cant beat that ...there is the AWD version also...look into these
If u like to stick with japanese, then id go with the Acura TL Sedan2004

The G-35 is a better car every way you look at it...

Better built, better value, better performance, MUCH Faster, Looks MUCH better...its one of the most unique looking cars on the roads I feel. Interior is MUCH more luxurious. Better dash....its no contest...and its got a great sound to it.

AWD has a tendency to understeer, not as much as FWD, but it does under hard cornering and acceleration. RWD has a tendency to oversteer, but with a little gas and countersteering can be corrected.

AWD- Rally
FWD- Economy
RWD- Best all around =)

x20000190930393. I had a 2000 S4 with twin turbo 6, and it was one mean toy. I drove that and the M3, and the S4 is the hands down winner around that time. I heard the new S4 with the 8 and the newer M3's are pretty close, but I would still put my money on Audi's Quatro after some of the **** I did in that car.

and the m3 DOESN'T handle like a dream?? correct me if i'm wrong but aren't you a truck/suv owner? so do you really think you've had extensive behind the wheel experience w/ both? i don't mean to call you out, it's just a question.

well it shouldn't make a difference, but did you drive a B5 or a B6 s4?
i believe a magazine did a test, i can't remember if it was R&T or MT... in any case, it's a pretty well known fact... put it this way, the VW R32 outhandles (no i'm not kidding) the b5 s4 as it's 1% faster around nurburgring than a b5... and the m3 simply outclasses the s4 and all vw's in SCCA....that alone should tell you something.

joebangaa: I've driven a 99' M3, a 05' M3, and 01 S4, and an 06' S4 both extensively as one of my best friends owned the M3's and my dad's business friend who i've known since I was born (or so i'm told) owns the S4. So yes I've had my fair share of both and the S4 was out in San Diego with a nice set of hills and curve's and the S4 IMO out handled the M3 anyday.

to Sqbubble: On the Acura, not a chance I HATTEEEE anything Acura beside's the NSX. For the 02' S4 I won't drive anything that old, to me 5yr old car is to old as I can't see spending the same or more on something that old.

To Snb778: you're an idiot if you think the G35 is 1) faster, 2) better performance. The faster is a proven fact, the performance is preference.

To noah, I'd love an AWD G35 but can't find one unless it's new and I don't have 34k to spend on one;).

If there's anyone else I left out i do apologize. For the interest of seeing something ugly, i got my plaster splint off today for a fracture boot and have pics of my foot 1 week from the accident posted here, pictures are on page 5: http://www.caraudio.com/forum/showthread.php?t=166740
