they are cd 1 e's powerd by an arc amp that does 70 x 2 at 4 ohms.

I just dunno what to do...

I thinking of getting 2 sets fo germaniums, 2 sets of slc coaxils and putting them in my car to get rid of the weak front stage issue.

My horns also mute after a certain volume. Its getting anoying

just run 2 sets of comps up front, and power them well.

how many watts?

i think they are 8 ohm

and my amp is 70 X 2 at 4 ohm.. around 50 watts? that not enough, could tha be my problem

If they are 8 ohm, they are probably seeing 35 watts... should be plenty for horns.

Find out what ohm they are and how much power they are rated for... if they will take more power, try that first. Watch your hearing.

Horns should never not be loud enough.

Let me rephrase this, if horns are not loud enough your a ****ing retarded who needs to donate your ears to someone who will learn how to use them.

OR

Your a ****ing retard who can't install car audio.

Eitherway your still a mother****ing retard, the thread title helps prove this futhermore.

Thank you.

agreed...nothing will be louder than a set of horns....unless you plan on doing a massive line array and ubber amounts of power....maybe step up to the cd1 pros...they are more effecient....it would take a hole wall of subs and shyt tons of pwere to keep up with HLCD's

Do you have a crossover on them? If so, what kind. What are your amps crossovers at?

they dont shut off.

Imagine listening to a trumpet... and all of a sudden listening to a Muted trumpet...

Thats what happens
it doesnt shut off.

I have a coustic crossover. Im not sure on the crossover at the amp question.. but i can check. Will the crossover point effect the horns goin to protection

You said they werent loud enough, your the ****ing tard.

If your main concern was the horns muting "AT 24" then your thread title would have stated it.

Now please go kill yourself.

my cd1es mated to 6.5 xxxs via the csx.1 passive crossover. they get plenty shrill powered by a mxa 6004 amp.

wow.......just wow..

horns are capable of being so loud it's not even funny. When people sit in my truck the first thing they say is "your highs are so loud."

I'm not even sending them hardly a volt of power.

What would a reversal of polarity do on horns?

Renegadesrun
06-21-2006, 11:55 PM
I would look at the xovers first?

They seem the cause of the attenuation you hear. They are protecting what apparently is a clipped signal.

That should be stupid loud. Even with the power supplied.

how much did it cost to do the kicks

kickpanels are prefabs from q-logic; cheap (in build quality) but convenient for about $125. frontstage with horns can do complelety without the kickpanel setup, i just left them in for showoff wow factor. xxx mids are IB in the doors, too deep for the kickpanels.

horns are NOT loud enough to keep up with boom.

You can get a PA horn and throw that in your back seat..................seriously if the cd1's horns aren't loud enough something is wrong. I had a set of USD waveguides that would deafen you.[/

Ive heard the "muted trumpet"and it was on the CDT xovers i had before i upgraded to the 200's. One thing or another was causing them to attenuate. I would lose half the sound until i turned it back down but onyl gain 80% of the original output for a period of time and eventually they would come back to full.

i switched to a xover with no protection, bought a bigger and am im rockin and rollin.

I figured it out a bit. My gain on the amp were almost to none.

And my Mids were the ones shutting off.

I turned down the gains on the mids and its much better.

how do i fix the mids problem

Another factor to consider is that the CD1E horn is a piezo driver that is a capacitive load rather than a resistive load on the amp. Some amps do not drive capacitive loads well, it could be that your muting is the amp going into protection mode and lowering the signal. A clue to this is that you stated that the amp was getting hot. You have acouple of options;
- Switch to the CD1 horn or get a new driver that has a resistive load.
- Use the CSX1 xover from image dynamics, this shows a resistive load to the amp and has some frequency shaping.
lol

I'm guessing your not using the Cd1-e crossover set?
