I'm going to be building my very first sub floor cabinet myself. I had one before but never did the work so it's my turn to get more familiar at building. I'm going to build it in my '95 Monte Carlo and the subwoofer will be a single Soundstream SPL160. So, I have two different box sizes but I do not know which route to choose and also finding ports that are 4" x either 22" or 16" long. You'll see what I mean.

So here's the first box size.

Ported SPL160
3.0cf @ 27hz, Two 4"x22" ports. High output with low frequency extension. Good small enclosure.

Ported SPL160
4.0 @ 32hz, Three 4"x16" ports. High output with excellent low frequency extension. Great for rock music.

Those are the two box sizes Soundstream. Well lets get to know my Soundstream SPL160 a lot better so you can get an understanding.

Frequency Response Hz 25-500
Sensitivity 96dB
Impedance 2 ohms
RMS (rated watts) 800
FS (Hz) 28
Qts .33
QMS 7.82
Qes .35
Vas (cf3) 7.24
Vas liters 205
Vas m3 .205
CmS (um/N) 183
DCR (ohms) 2.01
Levc (mH) @ 1 KHZ .67
BL (Tesla m) 13.3
Sd (in2) 131.0
Sd (m2) .0845
Sd (cm2) 845
x max; one way (linear mm) 10.0
x mzx; one way (peak mm) 22
Vd (linear cm3) 845
Vd (peak Cm3) 1859
magnet assembly (oz) 345
magnet weight (oz) 157
Vf 385
Coil length (mm) 28.6

Boy, I hope I did a good job with all the information I jotted down. My sub will arrive in the mail by next Thursday or Friday and I would like to get started on building the sub floor cabinet by next weekend. I appreciate all your expertise.

If both boxes will fit then go with 4.0ft, your ports could be 4" pvc pipe.
New or used spl160?

It's a used spl160. Is there a reason to go with the bigger box? I'll be driving 1000 watts to it. The sub is a svc 2 ohm. Also will my ports really need to be 16" long?

Can someone please give me a hand. Can I substitute three 4"x16" ports for six 4"x5" ports? I have no clue.

Can someone point me to another message board where people can help me?

Just do a ccompromise between the two boxes.

Something like 3.5ft^3 @ 28hz.

Google 'port calculator' to figure out how long the ports need to be.

Yes SS already stated "High output with excellent low frequency extension."

1.0 to 2.0 CU FT SEALED
2.0 to 4.0 CU FT VENTED

I would think the old SS did their homework

finding ports that are 4" x either 22" or 16" long.
