The car I have now is a 89 Honda civic dx 1.6 sohn non-vtec, if I put a B16 in it would it require new motor mounts and a diff. transmission? Also new axles? Thanks for any input I know alot of ppl here r really good with imports, ive always been around trucks and suv's, i drive a jeep now lol

goto a local junk yard and just pull a d16 out of a newer civic and put urself a little turbo kit , i've heard good things about turbo'd d16's

mounts, axles, ecu, tranny, cant really do it for a thousand.....save your pennies and then do the swap...if it were me id do an ls/vtec swap....get the 1.8l motor outa the ls integra and a b16 head off the new vic...buy the conversion kit and bam you have 200whp for less then a b16 would cost...

Personally I would just save up and get that B16 in there....screw all that H22 talk the motor will weigh down the front of the car too much and will cause major understeer plus the blocks of H22's are weak when you want to get some serious HP out of them.

SOHC turbo would be a good temp. solution but you will always be lacking why not just start off with the right platform and then turbo it i.e. B16....plus you have an 89 Civic...you can get the older JDM B16's with a cable tranny for cheap...

Camshaft.....

It just doesn't make sense to me if you want to make your car faster why not do it right...

blaze383
06-20-2006, 02:08 PM
Yea I want everything done right, it doesnt have to be crazy fast I just want it to run good and have a little more get up and go than the motor thats in it now, It doesnt have to be a B16 necessairly just whatever would be the easiest to swap in there and wat is less costly, I dont have alot of knowledge with this and my bro in law is going to be doing alot of the work. Im trying to stay 1500 bucks or less to have it running and running right.

I just came across this, D15 Single cam Vtec, pushin 130 hp with the tranny for 700 plus shipping, I could get that then put a turbo on it later cuz im low on cash now I mainly just wanna get it running.

Like some of the other's said I would be patient and do the B16 or 18. I just went to a local junk yard and found an integra with a nice looking b18a1, which can be resleeved for cheap. They want 120.00 for the whole motor including cpu, another 200 for trans so 320.00 total leaves a little cash for build and install.;)

were puttin in a built h22 in my friends car today.. but i had a b16a in my crx and u will need the motor, cable trans, ecu, wire harness, wire up the vtec, LS integra axles, probly get some hasport motor mounts, not possible for $1000.. best thing to do is a junk yard turbo set up or keep saving tell u get enough for everything

So the D15 isnt a good idea? Would it bolt right up and would my stock axles work?

jdmteg2nv
06-21-2006, 11:06 AM
I dunno if you stock axles will work on the D15 (don't know much about sohc engines) but I know you can get a b16 swap for 1500...a place down here sells the longblock for 800 and 300 for the tranny or he would the complete swapp for 1400. Keep in mind you are looking for a JDM B16a out of a 90 si....

home made turbo setups are making 200 whp with a reliable *** daily driver tune. thats 50+ more hp than a b16 and alot cheaper. but to each there own. ppl are boosting sohc's for dirt cheap. with the rest u can do other things or even start saving for a b series swap

Hey man. I thought I'd tell you that there is a place near you that I buy my jdm engines from. They are one of the only few places that actualy go to Japan and pick their motors. They are all said to be under 40,000. Give them a call Japan Direct 1-888-518-7341. Good prices too if your a local.
Alot of people use Soko engines. They have a good reputation in the nissan community.
