Well i've been talking about doing this for a while and finally bought some speakers and took the panel out of my truck (2000 s10 ext cab) under the rear window and am going to fiberglass so rear highs in back there. heres what it is like so far, no glass laid but just a layout of what to come.

http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid207/p5d155ac6f714f5eaca2db6ddb49cc43b/ee919d48.jpg
i am running them off of the door speakers ( both 4ohm speakers so followed kickers instructions and wired them down to a final 2 ohm load since i am amp-less)

got the wire to the back of the cab, now to remove that gray panel above the box.

i want it to look something like this, except the speakers beside one another instead of ontop of each other.

i dont have an amp to power them, so im not sure what you mean by the other 2 channels? is there another channel i shoudl know about. i just have RCAs to the kx1200.1 i have them wired with the doors and are considered "rear" on my h.u.. the others go to the dash and are considered "front"

Your headunit should have 4 leads coming off for 4 speakers. A positive and a negative for each, each speaker should be wired to its own lead, giving a 4 ohm load to the headunit. I hope you dont have the two speakers wired together and then going to the headunit in some crazy way.........

check this truck (http://www.carstereo.com/installs/photo_gallery_album.cfm?home=yes&photoid=29743&galleryid=2113), its something kinda like what your tryin to do

kpozr2
06-15-2006, 12:33 AM
its like wiring subs in series. except with a LONG speaker wire connecting each set. i didnt even touch the h.u.

Yeah you just wired them down to a 2ohm load on your headunit, probably not a good thing there I would becareful before you blow the internal amp in the headunit.

kpozr2
06-15-2006, 01:01 AM
for real??? it says it will make it "easier" on the h.u. by lower the impedence. ahh good thing they arent hooked up yet. it actually says this
." The Kicker DS-Series Coax Speakers are rated at four ohms and work with any source unit or amplifier designed to operate at a four ohm load. If you want to use two DS-Series Coax Speakers on each channel of your source unit or amplifier wire the speakers in series, as shown below. This will improve the sound quality, lower the total harmonic distortion and lessen the thermal load at the source unit or amplifier. This may prevent an amplifier from shutting down, due to over-current protection circuitry."

i'll wire them like that. save the h.u. from a burn up. what do you think about an 8 ohm load?

iamamp3pimp
06-17-2006, 09:34 PM
i think you should get a 4 channel and wire them to it.

Or how about i get a kicker kx200.2 2ch for $25.00 to run the door speaks, and i run the 4" off h.u...... OH WAIT! i already did that.yea i bought a 200.2 from worlddre but shes a fuse blower, but for the time i have a alpine FM240 4 channel. to use.
ANYWAY. i got some work done today on the fiberglassing. heres some pics.

kicker has 'em wired in series so you would get 8 ohms.

kpozr2
06-18-2006, 10:56 AM
paint the same color grey it was. yea the speakers will be running of h.u. power and my old door speakers will run off a kicker 200.2 eventually, but an alpine FM240 until the kicker gets repaired.

AH FU*K IT! im starting over. test fit it in with my sub box and the bastard moves the box out too far so id have my knees on the dash! i'm moving the rings up 3 inches then coming back the panel under the rings at a 90 degree angle back to the panel so it sits right on top of the box. ill have new pics on tuesday. bummer for me.

had a few mess-ups on this one, due to tight curves, hot glue coming up in a spot and a wrinkle, along with some inexperience. but a lil bondo and sanding will cure these.

James Bang
06-21-2006, 02:23 AM
rears as people say here... "FTL" .

instead of getting pwnt by vinyl, you'll now get pwnt by rear speakers.

kpozr2
06-21-2006, 11:58 AM
i hooked em up 2day...and rear 4" coax's FTFW! clear as day, i can even hear them decently through the L7's. rear fill ftl.....urban legand. now im waiting for the kx200.2 for the doors.

James Bang

since you're running L7s ported, i understand. rears for spl or whatever... sure, but for SQ, no freakin way. when i go to shows or concerts, i remember the stage being in front of me :p:

but.. FB ftw
