So, as some of you may have noticed I'm new to the fourms but not to car stereo. What some of you may not have known is I am actualy a pretty big computer nerd as well. What does all this have to do with Enclosures you ask? Well, I cleaned out my shed the other day and realized I have had a old banpass box I made for a friend sitting in there from 3 years ago. Now I made this entirley out of wood, so that the subs were sealed inside, and no way of knowing what condition they were in. Now i said to myself, we got some rats in here, its over 120 in the summers, theres now way there good, so I take my screw driver out, take all the screws out of the top plate and start prying at it with a crowbar. Thats when I realize that the woodglue + liquid nailed edge seams wernt giving. SO I took a hammer and asserted myself in a ring on the top plate and peeled it off, to discover two, perfect condition, 3 year old Sony Explodes. But what to do with them, well I had a computer system, also for three years, Its a logitech system that I got for a steal @ 34dollars. I also looked at the front of that and thought I had a eight. I still had a prefab 12" sealed enclosure laying around so I said screw it, I'll take out the 8, run the wires to the 12 in the prefab and call it a day., much to my surprise the 8 turned out to be a piece of carboard with a sorround and inside it was a 3 1/2 4Ohm speaker. Heres a pic.

So as you can see I took the wires off the 3 1/2 and ran some extensions leading to the back of the 12, tested it out, and for what it is, IT WANGS!

This is what it looks like under my desk now.

What model is that logitech set? It's funny how they put a big grill on the front with one small woofer in the back, bastards! Talk about a big port (the cutout for the so called 8")!

I'm doing something similar to you, except I'm making a new box for the woofer :P.

How did you get the computer speaker apart. I wanted to check mine and can't get the grill off without breaking it.

DarkFox

you get a REALLY fine pointed screwdriver and wedge it between the grill material and the plastice sorround then carefully pry it off. Mine was glued in, had to pry hard.

How did you get the computer speaker apart. I wanted to check mine and can't get the grill off without breaking it.Mine has the black grill with the grey around it. The grey part is SCREWED into the box... so don't try prying the whole thing from the grey. Remove the black grill, then unscrew the grey. I am learning this the hard way at the moment... lol dumb thing.

You guys got the shaft. My logitech is actually a pretty beefy little 8". I'm gonna make a better enclosure for this bad boy.

Gonna see if I can get them from logitech. If not i'll probably just use an ascendant 8" T/S for winisd.

Oh ok, I was wondering if it was by choice or what.

Not a bad little set-up, but then again computers aren't really my thing and I don't know jack **** about em' other than how to use em'.

Is that computer in the first set of pics with the Xplode liquid cooled? Looks like the grey hoses are for a water pump, tho they are kinda big. Or are they to cover up a mess of cables or something?

i was going to change my klipsch sub out with a XXX mid, but i dont feel like seeing if the amp will like going from a 6ohm sub to a 2ohm sub, i might just order something from PE and see if it does better

The computer is water-cooled. good Eye. I have all 1/2" ID tubing with a industrial 12V water pump, riunning into a dual 120MM radiator, with a Switech water block on the AMD x2 proc.

Your tubing is cloudy. Looks like WW and clearflex have the joke on you.

Edit, the z640s **** ***. z680s all the way.

DarkFox

no pat the tubing is good (cant remember the brand but it was the good stuff) it was the UV dye that got me, looked great for about a week, then the water clouded up.... dont care to bleed my whole system just to replace the water again.

top three choices,

clearflex, tygon, masterkleer

Masterkleer rarely if ever clouds. Clearflex is known for clouding. I don't recall about tygon mostly 'cause it's soo **** expensive nobody cares to try.

ok im tryin to take apart my subwoofer assembly (logitech also) theres some screws @ the back where the wires go into but i assume that to be the tiny lil plate amp + lil circuit board for all the wires, and then theres 2 screws on the bottom near the front near the port , hmm guess ill take the "port" screws out
