Any suggestions for something new? I'm leaving in 10 minutes to find a different car.

About $5000

I took home test drove a 1998 Ford Ranger Ext cab, with a 2.5l 4 cylinder and a 5 speed transmission. I like it, it's slow but will get good mpg and has room for systemage :) Plus I need a truck pretty bad. What do you all think? $5200

toyoter ftw

I have to say I agree with alpine3612's suggestion as I am a big Toyota fan myself.

You could spend the $6-700 on the Porsche and keep it.
I just saved you over $4K.
That'll be a 5% Finder's Fee, please. ;)

Yea if you want a good mpg truck toyota is the way to go like a tacoma. Im a hardcore chevy fan but they def dont get the best mpg.

06-09-2006, 12:46 AM
Really? They are kind of expensive IMO, great trucks yes but expensive.

The porsche is pretty much junk, I hafta spend at LEAST a realistic $2000 before it is going to be safe or bearable for me to drive for much longer, in PARTS ALONE. Brake pads, struts, tires, a battery, a few senors, door gaskets, window gaskets, suneroof gaskets... I'm selling it and a 944 pars car, with a spare head and a feew other parts for 1300 dollars.

:(.. you have a steady job? pay? if so put that 5000 down on a new car..

I have 3 jobs :crap: but don't make much money, only about 2000 saved up. Doing a 1000 down payment on the truck, my payments should be like 90 a month for 48 months.

I need a truck preety bad though, I alwyas have to borrow my paren'ts truck to do stuff at one of my jobs within th family business and it *****, I'll enjoy driving my own vehicle much better. It's ext cab so i have room to drop my 3 12" JL Audio W6's in it. Putting a comp set is gonna be a ***** though, I've got manual windows and there is just NOWHERE i can see that I can make a spaeakerpod sit to get good imaging.

Sports cars are fun but nothing but trouble. I'll fix up a 944S2 or a 968 later on when I have a garage and money to buy a GOOD one to start with.

All the reasons I bought my tacoma....also 4 banger 5 spd with no balls. But its a truck, unless you're pulling a boat or something...no real need for it :D. Mine works just fine with anything I've thrown in the bed :D.

Tacos>rangers :D

Remember, this is with just the driver and ZERO load on flat terrain topping out @ 48 MPH ... As soon as you throw several hundred pounds in the back plus less-than-ideal terrain, both of them are going to be around 15 MPG, so you might as well take the one with more power (I'd opt for the 4 liter, personally) ...
Really?? :crap: I should have got a six banger :( OH well, hard enough to find a nice tacoma for sale, let alone only a 6cyl :)

So far the only qualm I have about this truck is I'm 6'9" tall and while using the clutch my knee hits the turn signal. If I could modify that, It would be great...

The only hauling I will be doing is occasional and light, most of the time I will be daily driving it just like I did my Porsche. Errands for the business, normal travel to destinations. I think I'm gonna buy it or a similar truck with a v6 automatic to solve the turn signal issue..., I like toyota but frankly I don't feel like paying for one especially if its an extra cab.

06-11-2006, 02:18 AM
If it's just occasional and light, maybe you should get a hatchback ... Much better fuel economy because they're lighter and much more aerodynamic ...

That's what I had. I want to get a VW Golf Turbo Deisel.

******* it this truck ****ing ***** ***. I',m driving it as a loaner until I pay for it, and it's slow as hell and is getting pretty lackluster gas mileage. It even leaks after rain in the cabin through the back window, and I think the 3rd gear synchro is blown. WOrse off, when you rev it up, the voltage drops and the battery light comes on. :(

I have some ****** luck.

IDKWTF if I should keep theis truck or not ... Hmmm.. If they fix the probs maybe.

06-14-2006, 10:43 PM
if you plan on actually using your truck like its a truck dont get a 4 cylinder. I had a 94 ranger with the 4 cyl. and if you think it's slow now, wait until you put a load in it. They are horrible. Could barely pull a trailer. Also out on the highway it topped out at 80-85 miles per hour(with no load) and it was pretty **** scary driving that thing on the big roads. My suggestion is dont get a ranger(tocoma's are awsome) and whatever truck you do get make sure its extended cab.

06-14-2006, 10:52 PM
going from a porsche to a ****** *** truck. Is something wrong here. If you want a truck id get something around the lines of a f-150

06-14-2006, 10:53 PM
also the golf diesels are nice my friend has one

06-14-2006, 10:53 PM
i had a 91 ranger with a 2.3 i4 (iirc).... it topped out at like 80mph downhill with a strong tail wind...

also i would say, if you are really concerned about mpg... get something else..those quoted mpg were also when the truck was brand new ;(

06-14-2006, 10:54 PM
i just bought an 06 focus zx3... 2 door hatch FTW...

06-14-2006, 10:57 PM
I just replaced my old ranger with a jeep cherokee and it's the best **** thind I have ever bought. Get's fine gas milage too. Looked into any smaller SUV's?

06-14-2006, 11:01 PM
dodge caliber

06-14-2006, 11:02 PM
i like the older nissan trucks, like 84-90, might wanna look into one of those.

06-15-2006, 01:31 AM
toyotas engines will outlast everything though

06-16-2006, 12:42 AM
I bought the truck, they are rebuilding the tranny and putting a new alt in it.

I intend to put a system in it, enjoy it for awhile... I am thinking about moving out of the country (Switzerland) for a year so I will probably sell it to my dad who needs a truck soon... heh, maybe he will leave the 3 12's in it :)
