Run active with your 880.......

Maybe a set of AA poly mids ($80) and some LPG tweets ($90).......comes in quite a bit under your budget too.....

Best way to learn is to do it.........Ive never ran a decent front stage at all, closest I came was a set of RE comps shittily installed, for a couple days.

You would need a small tweet amp, or a 4 channel. Or, you could try the tweets off your deck, might be enough power for them.......

anyone???......what do u guys think about the boston pro's off of 125 watts rms??

That will work...remember they are 3 ohm speakers so you will have about 33% more power to work with.

I second the active move knowing that you have such a capable HU. If you go that route the choices become nearly limitless...which may only add to your frustration!!

Best comp set for $250 IMO is the OZ Audio Matrix Elites...if you can find them for that.

I have $10 via PayPal if someone can find a thread where Slick doesn't recommend Rainbow speakers!!!

And to answer your question about which are better the Pro's or OZ....it's impossible without defining 'better'. The OZ's where in an install which received a perfect score in a sound off competition.

pros are a solid comp set. .. but then again rainbow slc's are a bargain at 220, not much of a difference to save 100+ bucks..

The benefit of the Pro's is the higher power handling capabilities...the drawback is the the potential sharpness of the metal dome tweeter. You will not get a ton of midbass out of a 5.25" speaker.

If you want loud music, you need efficient speakers and/or a ton of power. This where the OZ's win.

My guess is that without proper tuning of your entire system and because I've never heard anyone listen to rap music softly, your call will probably sound like this: boom-tiss...boom-tiss...baboom-tis-tis....

That is what i think....and therefore I cannot be wrong :p: :)

do you guys want me to recommend infinity's or alpines for the same price range??? for ballin on a budget Rainbows are hard to beat. I do not strongly recommend anything besides slc's and germs (from Rainbow)because I have either: heard them extensively, or own them. :) 99% of the threads where I post about Rainbows have a budget limited to the 2 aforementioned options. Anything above that I stay out of the thread...because I do not want to be like half the bums on here who recommend speaker sets without hearing them.

I have Pro60's and about that wattage and they are very loud. Very clear too, I would not give them up for anything and I have an 880PRS as well.

If you have a nice 4 channel amp, couldnt you run the the active front stage just from that, using the 880prs?

Kickerkitty
06-12-2006, 10:52 AM
Yes, and it would probably sound great. I wish I had a PRS-X340 (4 channel) instead of 320 (2 channel), because I would do exactly that.

PollyCranopolis

So I could run my RF851x 4chan and my 880prs? Great! I I would need then would be a decent sub amp for my 1 15', and some sound deadening!

Isnt this pretty much the same thing?

Also, would there be a major diffrence in going with a cheaper set for active vs, buying as higher priced passice set like SLC's?
