Ok, I'm building my first box next week. Just wondering besides MDF and carpet what do I need? (liquid nails?) caulk? and what kind of adhesive for the glue...anything else? suggestions on screws?

I prefer using a nail gun, but if your gonna use screws, course drywall screws work the best, and make sure you predrill. And for glue you can either use a wood glue like elmers or gorilla glue works really well also. Than you can caulk the seems to make sure you have a nice seal.

Ok cool. That's all I need? wtf is liquid nails and what is it used for?

also the wood glue is to glue the wood together or glue the carpet to the wood...or both?

Liqued nails is glue, like wood glue, except it's thicker. The glue is what holds the box together, if you have clamps you don't have to use screws. Screws are just there to hold the pieces together while the glue dries. The glue is what holds it together.

I use liquid nails, and i also use it inside the box, to create the seal, because it works just fine.

A Caulk gun for the liquid nails.

The screws that i use are pre primered brass wood screws, and they are the best that i have ever used. The primer, adds much more friction.

Drill bits, for predrlling holes.

Are you carpeting? - if so, i recommend the 77m spray glue. It is much more expensive than the rest, but it works SOOOOO much better. I like one can per 2 boxes, than 2 cans per box.

some type of roller to help apply the carpet is nice as well. Razors to cut the carpet are a necessity too, and some type of straightedge to ensure a perfect cut works too.

Wires are needed as well

i would get two 90 degree clamps and two long clamps (long enough to clamp the longest part of your box). dunno the price of em..

Yes I am carpeting and I have some of the 90m spray at was supposed to be high strength but I was really unsatisfied with it. It didn't hold worth a crap. I've heard of using contact cement but it requires a little more delicacy and is harder to use.

How about speaker terminals? Or bolts for the speaker wires if you want to make it easier.

I highly recommend T nuts for securing the woofers. They are inserts that you will put in the inside of your box, with a threaded center, and teeth that will grab into the wood. You squeeze them into the mounting holes for your woofers, and then thread bolts through them instead of using screws for the woofers. They will allow you to remove and re-install your woofers a million times without ruining the mounting holes. They are a necessity IMO. I can't say enough good things about them, or stress how necessary they are.

Got 2 saws? A circular saw for cutting the wood (or table saw if you are so lucky), and a jigsaw for the woofer holes, port holes and speaker terminal hole (or a router if you are so lucky).

well I already have speaker terminals. I will get some T-nuts, and I have a table saw and a jigsaw. And a circular saw actually. Don't know about the router. I do all this work at my unlce's house because he is the workshop guy and has a ton of tools.

ha ha then you have all that you need, i use my dads house lol all his tools, wood glue, gas in his car when he dosent have somthing i need and i usually end up going through his nut/bolt collection for some of my projects.... only problem is i can never find any of his tools other than flathead screwdrivers..... very disorganized man

but seriously having someone around that has experence in woodworking is a MAJOR help

Wouldnt some kind of caulk be needed on those T-nuts to ensure a tightly sealed box?

i will say no... because if you are cranking them into the box with a bolt... they should be pretty **** tight on there...
