View Full Version : My TCAB wanna be box

Got my pieces from JDAudiobox, great guy. The pieces were perfect, but my construction wasn't. A few of the pieces ended up being a little off, but no biggie, I'm happy with the outcome. It's very ugly because of all the dripped glue, but I'm not trying to win any beauty contests here. To me, an enclosure serves one purpose, to perform.

The box is ~5.2 ft3 @ ~36hz. 4 4" PSP Flares were used. For 2 12" 1242Ds, aka Type Rs.

I dont think you "see" impedance rise until the subs are in an playing at given frequencies...but I could be wrong.

yea, thats not your imp rise

they are clean cuts.

impedance rise is caused by the coil going through the magnetic field which means unless you have subwoofer of the gods, that's not impedance rise. I am surprised it's right at 1.0 though, a lot of subs are a little off.

prochobo

Oops on the imp rise then. No carpet is gonna go on. I'm gonna leave it lookin like that.

you should carpet it.

it looks like ***. you might be able to sell the R's with the box for twice what you paid locally and re-build it again lol.

it will be loud.

I know it looks like *** :P I don't care. It is loud as **** though. Beat the hell out of my other box.

Overall I noticed a flatter response. Even though it's tuned so high, the lows to me are great and it feels like someone's smacking my cheeks. It doesn't sound too bad, but that's subjective.

The most sincere flattery is imitation.

$80 for the pieces. That includes the material itself, the cuts, and shipping.
$60 for the ports including shipping.

$20 for materials.

So final cost, $160. Factor out shipping charges, and the final cost drops to $110.

I've done that with other boxes and it absolutely ******, but I haven't tried it with this one yet. I guess I will later on in the future.

Never really works well unless you have everything behind it conmpletely sealed off from the front ;)

I just tried it a few days ago and everthing from 30-40hz got a big boost, but everything beyond that ****** hard. Everything behind it wasn't sealed off, so i guess that's why? I've heard that you should not completely wall off the back seat opening with your box because it prevents sound waves from entering the cabin. Any truth to that? I'm trying to get my trunk loud ^^

I didnt know there were so many Louisvillians on here.

I didn't either. We should have a meet

Pyro_By_Nature

I lived in louisville, KY for a couple of months

That's if you have your subs firing into the trunk ;) If you want to seal it off you have the subs pretty much right against the back seat.
