yea, but it works, and it saved my like 15 minutes

yea i didnt screw around with the bracing, 3 all-thread rods, 3 dowel rods, a mdf square brace and 4 courner triangle braces--those are between the front and the top/bottom but you cant see them

like 4.5", it should be just enough because its recomends a port length and they are 4" ports

terry6405

i was afraid that the front between the ports and sub would be weak but i stood on it and bounced ( i weigh 215 lbs) a little right on the weak spot and it didnt flex a bit, and that was b4 the allthread

it really doesn't compare, lol.

Its not too bad though, and ya did build it yourself.

You definitely get alot out of a TCAB box, both in performance and now they use baltic birch, which, the wood alone is almost 100, owch lol. Its stronger, lighter, and more water resistant, holds screws better... and looks nicer... so I can't complain.

On top of the painted ports mounted without screws

On top of a great design to begin with.

That being said it would be a little more now with the new wood, I don't know exactly what you asked for in the quote - but it would be more along the lines of $245 + ship. Your not too far though, coulda came and picked up.

I'm still looking for the best supplier on the wood, so the cost pretty much depends on that.

I'll be building a sort of a demo box with the birch, will look awesome :) I'll throw pics up here/on the site.

Its kewl, DIY is fun I'm all for it :).

Your really ont gonna swap subs and get something considerably louder than the SX, as long as it handles the power your fine. I'd say focus on making the box do what you want it to do, the woofer isn't as important.

And, matteson is a south burb of chicago, like tommy said.

you can make aero's relatively tight on the back wall, btw, works just as well. You go .25" too far and you reall start losing performance.

2" is about as close as you can go, and thats really pushing it.

well i was thinking about getting a havoc or a Audioque HD because i heard that either would be louder and have Better SQ, and i dont really feel like building another box, right now anyways, and also i think i would be able to get some good money would of my SX15 because of the rise in price--more people would pay more because they cant get it from RE as cheap anymore.

thats what i heard too, and thats why i was thinking about it and i can get it in dual 1.5 ohm VC so i can run more power to it, and it should be fine on my amp after box rise, my SX was like 1.5ohms parralell on my other box, but i hear thats the norm with RE

How does a L7 compare to the Type r in your boxes

It depends, the Type R is better overall, the L7 can sound pretty good, but it has to get quiet. It can get loud, but it needs a big box and loses alot of SQ.

L7 handles more thermally, type R handles more mechanically.

Its really a tossup... in my box, flip a coin, either will probably be too much to begin with.

"tuned" I duno, that was a wacky design lol. It was just a box thrown into the shell of my wall. That same box is responsible for doing a 149 something with a powerbass 3000 in the trunk of a taurus? lmfao... that is one quiet car :). Amp on par with an orion 2500d.

I think it "tuned" to 38hz, something like that. played 42hz in the wall and 46 in the taurus. was awesome on music, as you can see in the vid

Coming from someone who actually tested both, the R is preferred.... not to mention you sell that SX, get the R, and you have $ in your pocket.

And, the type R sounds better :)

I should clarify SQ...

The R is much better down low, and will play lower in the same box. The SX is better past approx 50hz, which makes it a more punchy sounding woofer, but still not on the button accurate.

Neither are straight SQ woofers, neither sound "bad"... the R will be louder to the ear, and IMO sounds better since it plays lower.

Ebay it up.
