View Full Version : poorly built box....

first off, i am not trying to open up old wounds, but i am expressing an opinion. today i received my box from j-tyler. i wasn't very pleased with the work. the cuts were very uneven, almost no wood glue was used and screws were drilled in crooked. j-tyler assured me that my box was done properly and this was her "10th" box and her customers should were satisfied. i am not complaining however, i should of done my homework on this before i confirmed this deal. further more, this is a poor job for having a time frame of almost 2 weeks. :furious: again, i am not trying to start an arguement but i am saying this isnt the right way to do business!!!!!

i will be posting pics of the box soon.

the mdf for the port which is in the first pic is loose and also not very straight. cuts look as if they are done with a had saw. screws cannot be removed due to being rounded off. i will try and make due with the box....i mean i paid for this "box" if you want to call it that. i bought some wood glue and silicone and did what i can with it for now......i think i need another box builder!

exactly, boxes i make for people i charge more than $130..because i put time into them to make sure they're built up to the best standards. and aren't going to fall apart and will last foreeeeever! unless you take a sledgehammer to it. people see the cheap price and go for it. you get what you pay for i guess as the saying goes.

She sent me a boz design with no dimensions, when I emailed her she sent back outer dimensions, and told me 'let's go with 3 in for port width". The design layout was the funniest **** i have seen. I would have asked for my $7 back, but it has been the source of many laughs around here.

Lets not even get into this... I've posted it 100 times, I've done the testing, and I use the wood I use because it works BETTER. Now hit the site and go watch video's of trunks woopin up on your CRX and playing 20hz lower.

Maybe the original poster could have paid a little more in the first place and got something like this:
http://thecaraudiobox.com/graphics/boxpics/singler12silverports2.jpg

The ports are medium grey btw... I'm not sure why they look silver/chrome in the pic.

http://www.thecaraudiobox.com/graphics/portpics/silverport1.jpg

Gives you a better idea... but you can get a bunch o colors.

My prices are very competitive with even the "guru" builders on here, and they are top notch performance/build... not just the same ole subzone style box.

You without a shadow of a doubt get what you pay for... and you don't even have to pay much more to get a quality box.

But, people will continue to buy cheap stuff up front, and end up lacking performance/looks.. and will have to ust pay more in the end to get something they are actually satisfied with.

Wow, I am so glad that I never actually received a box from her. The box I build myself is very well built, no gaps of any kind, and it isnt falling apart any time soon...

And she also told me she wanted to paint it because carpet isnt as fun  That is just spray paint, I doubt there was any sanding or even a primer coat...

She still owes me $80... Which I doubt I will see again.

Use screws. If you dont then you will be stuck waiting for the glue to dry on each piece to work on another section, unless you buy a **** load of clamps... Predrill your holes, this is a must.

u need 2 90 degree clamps at least and if your not going to use screws ( which if this is your first time u better use screws ) at least 2 large regular clamps, countersinking bits, jigsaw blades

spaz0055

The first box was rushed, but she agreed to a one day deadline (she should have never agreed to that if it was going to compromise the build.)

She had my money for well over a week and she never actually finished an enclosure.

This enclosure was a two-weeker, and look at it.

Well, you got what you paid for. The box will work, its just a little rough around the edges... well... alot rough around the edges.

I wouldnt even attempt to use that box. The port wall isnt even straight, she just filled the gap with caulk.

Yes, you get what you pay for. BUT, if she is going to go into a business such as this and charge people, the product should at least be fully functional.

And your right, 150 @ 40hz is painful.... hell, to most people, a 145 at 40hz is pain... and to the noobs (and some quiet not so noobs) 140 @ 40hz is painful.

give me 2-3 hours and I can make that box look awesome

It'll "work" with some sealant... the design is basic, its hard to screw something like that up. A crooked port isn't gonna be the end of the world... if it chokes the port, slightly lower tuning, if it opens the port, slightly higher tuning, thats about all.

But on the real, im about ready to build another box, i need a spl box design for my SX 12's, the widest i can go is 34", 14"high, and about 24" deep, im really feeling the single slot box where the subs share the same chamber, or the box thats like in Jordan Tylers avatar, not sure if she built that or not but ive seen that design and want to know how it works.

my point exactly... you don't cry foul after the fact and demand a free box. Its custom work, all that is "required" is you get a box period, and it can be used as intended.

If I remember, her dad? is a lawyer, I'm sure he could add something there :)
