Well, I know this has probably been done before, but have not seen any done in a while. So lets see what you all got. Here is mine. I just got the Sony Wega HDMI ready 50" rear projection TV, that I love but probably be taken it back for the 40" LCD Sony Brivara. I just think this tv is too big plus dont know if I like this rear projection style. Let me know what you guys think. Oh yeah also you can thank the girlfriend for the woman homestyle touch, ahaha! Yep I paid for that crap. :(

Old setup getting taken down. I will miss it.

The New rear projection Sony Wega 50" TV.
http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f302/JesseJamesPics/Carsplusoldpicsofdriveway294.jpg
This is the Jbl center channel, that I will one day make a shelf for to put up higher. Also in the pic is the monsterpower HTS 1600. Shows the readouts and is supposed to help out, who knows if it really is, lol!
http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f302/JesseJamesPics/Carsplusoldpicsofdriveway262.jpg

Showing one of the HD channels. Yep clippers beating Denver once again.
http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f302/JesseJamesPics/Carsplusoldpicsofdriveway282.jpg

Pic of the left side of my entertainment center. Showing is the motarola DVR/digital cable box. Love this thing. Also there is the Toshiba VCR that I havent used in like forever, lol! Then at the bottom is the Pioneer DVD/Tivo
recording system. Yes I have like every movie burned, hahaha!

http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f302/JesseJamesPics/Carsplusoldpicsofdriveway295.jpg

Pics of the right side. Showing is the Toshiba single disc DVD player that rarley gets used. Have in case one dont work, lol! Also my Sony Digital Audio/video reciever. Supposed to do about 500 watts, but I doubt it, lol! Still makes the speakers shake the windows and can get the cops called on ya. :) At the bottom is the 100 disc Pioneer cd changer. Love this as well when I want to jam for the day.

http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f302/JesseJamesPics/Carsplusoldpicsofdriveway298.jpg

Showing all the speakers that range from JBL tower speakers, JBL center, Sony 8"Subwoofer and Sony bookshelf speakers up top. I also have the same bookshelf speakers in the back by the couch for surround sound. Sounds dam good. Again you can see the womans touch. :(

Eh, what the hell, my dorm setup for this year...
http://img211.imageshack.us/img211/6410/p10100148vs.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

It consists of:
2 back loaded horns W/ Fostex FE103E drivers
1 DD 1008 sub
1 Behringer EP2500 sub amp
1 ART SLA-1 Main amp
1 Behringer T1953 preamp
1 Behringer CX2310 crossover

Next year the mains are staying at home and the new project will be a rockin in the dorm.

Next years mains will be towers w/ tripple AA mids per side, haven't quite decided on a tweet, there are two that I'm throwing around, same rack gear powering it, possible replace the ART SLA-1 with an SLA-2 though. Not quite decided on the sub stage yet either, I think the DD is gonna be in my truck, and I migh be lookin at an RL-i 10" for dorm duty...

Also if the mods do want to move this there, that is fine. This thread didnt take off like I thought it would.

they actaully have excellent SQ. great midbass. but thats what you get when you buy speakers that are 800 a pair. the setup needed to be mostly out of sight, so in-ceiling was my only choice.

Judging by the popularity of this thread I would say the Home audio forum is slow moving due to subject NOT it's location outside of the lounge. I do think before posting, hence the reason I didn't participate or put this thread in the wrong place to begin with. :p:

In ceiling is so much worse than actual towers.
But if you want them hidden its the only way to go.

exactly, my choice would have been towers, but it needed to be hidden, so i went with that option and hand picked my speakers to get the best sound i could.

How is the sound? Loud? yes LOUD, but they sound smooth and clear too, now i have them hooked up to the TV, and i watch just regular TV with them on, at low volumes. The voices dont suffer, as with alot of Speakers when you listen to TV through them, even with the one tweet, they are clear at low volumes, and Still uber clear at LOUD volumes :)

Best ~200$ ive ever spent

Well, seeing as I had my balls snipped off by the woman last time I was allowed to spend freely on a HT set-up (can you say denon and kef anyone.....she didn't like the receipt that I should have destroyed). I haven't done a "proper" set-up in the living room.I blew my chance with picking out what I want :( Still trying to talk to her into a nice set-up for the living room, but she just wants "cute" little speakers from a "HT in a box" set-up.

So, currently in this "office/misc. crap/sometimes guest" room I have an ok little set-up.To be honest with you guys, this has become more of a den, we end up watching the movies thatr you can't bare without half decent sound in here.Which happens to be a lot.Throw a 62" TV in here and we'll never ****in' watch a movie in the living room again. Now, it doesn't sound like much in writing, but surprisingly it sounds pretty good and can easily get the cops called on you (3 times and counting)

KLH RS5000 receiver, only running in stereo
1 pair Yamaha book shelfs
1 pairOld school Jensen (back when they were decent) 3 way floor speakers
Little 80-100 watt amp for the subs
2 8" Rockford Fosgate punch Z's in a Wicked One (corner loaded)

Go ahead and bash it.I don't care, does good enough for me I know it doesn't sound that appealing, but a lot better than a good amount of car set-ups people spend 4x as much on.I don't listen to a ****ing symphony all day, so $2000 on a single amp is pointless to me.Classic rock/older metal actually sound decent on this. And I like it fairly loud, so it works out fine. The wicked one is **** efficent.I love it.I intend on adding more power and more speakers.I have a spare RS5100 out in the shop.Looks identical, soon I'll have twins.I'll post some pics in a min.I just took these pics, I'll get a few "from a far" shots tomorrow after I clean it up a little. And this weekend I was going to properly cover the wicked one.

Not the best, but it works for what we need it for.Does its job just fine. And I don't get *****ed at about the cost, because it's all leftovers from previous little set-ups.

I don't understand. She'll wear a $725 ring, a $800 ring, a $400 necklace, $900 bracelet, $150 shoes, but I'M the one that gets *****ed at for spending just under a grand on a receiver that actually does something.Women....love em' though.

Wow, you have that setup and only used it 48 hours? That is crazyness, lol! I like the TV though.

And I have some nice plans for the living room, using yamaha and dayton stuff mostly, just have to get "permission" for it lol.I'm just waiting for her to go on vacation by herself so my son and I can just stay here and build build build. When she gets home "oh that, we won that" ;)

Hope when she goes on va K, she has a good time, because she will be pissed when she gets home, lol!;)

Personally, I don't care about whatever badge is stamped on the corner of any receiver. As long as it functions, sounds half decent, and can make power, I don't give a ****.I've had several sony receivers in the past, no problems.I had an old kenwood I beat on all the time in a garage set-up, never game me ****.I bought the denon, 2 weeks later it kills itself, thank god for big chain stores and exchanges.

My neighbors hate me.But that's fine, call the cops.Next time I'll just turn it up louder.I'll post my even more ghetto shop set-up in a little bit lol.

Haha, good man and I have done that theory. Call the cops on me, I will turn it up louder. Funny thing is all they ever do is tell you to turn it down. I remember the 1st time they came to my house I was blarring some old ACDC and they guy told me he was knocking on the door the whole song of Thunderstruck, lol! He then says if my **** sounded as good as yours I would probably be blarring it as well, ahahah!

8-9wpc @ 8 ohms. 'Bout the same as a 300B for half the cost. Of course, they take a helluva lot more plate voltage to get that, which means larger transformers and heavier overall weight :)

Pshhh weight is good. I'd aim for 30w at 8-10ohm.

They're single ended...you do realize how much goes into getting 30W out of a SET design :D Talking about 211's, 845's...transmitting tubes with graphite cathodes and voltages exceeding 1KV. Not to mention transformers that cost almost as much as my entire system put together...

Way cheaper to go low power and up the efficiency on the loudspeaker end. With the HLCD's on the Forte II's, these get loud to the point of pain in the nearfield.

Thanks guys.. I really like it.. That RX-V1 is a beast and I am still in love with it after all these years.. It's simply flawless.. I just picked up the Velodyne yesterday and so far I'm impressed.. Those boxes on top of my Dahlquists are full of DivX movies which play on my Philips DVD player.. Those Dahlquist towers weigh 185lbs each and sound so sweet.. I finally just added that JBL center channel as well and I am kicking myself for not doing it sooner.. I just picked up that Dish PVR a couple of weeks ago and it's the ****.. I am recording stuff all the time now and can watch it later, stuff I would have missed otherwise.. Definately the way to go..

The batteries last a while in this thing, but I have a ton of rechargables, so I don't care.. It can be flaky at times (loosing connection and ****) but when it works, it works well.. I just think there's too much wireless **** around my 'hood causing interference.. It does sound really good tho, connected with a toslink cable to my receiver, but having access to all of my MP3s anywhere in the house is simply ****..

Here is my HT. I LOVE IT! Not the most expensive equipment but sounds killer. Running a toshiba 65" hd monitor, Harmon receiver, toshiba up converter DVD player with hdmi out to the tv, motorola hd receiver with 80gb hard drive... Speakers are all JBL, e80 fronts, ec35 center, 250P sub, e10 side surrounds and e20 rears in a 7.1 setup. For movies I cannot ask for more!!! I used to hate JBL's mid range gear, but after an in home audition with these, fell in love with them, especially for the price. Killer budget speakers! Especially for HT. The 250P sub is the most suprising out of the group. I planned to run two of them, but one was WAY more than needed to rattle the house, garage, roof, next door buttholes house etc..

I just started a company that will build 1 of a kind per job loudspeakers..right now I'm using the drivers I have around the house, but will be using Audio Technology drivers only once I have everything squared away....

The top pod along with the back piece and curved base will be painted a Metallic Burgandy..while the midbass cabinet will be veneered in a quilted koa with a bloodwood inlay...and that hole on the backside will house an AP vent...

easily my favorite speakers I've ever heard....

I've built these before but the only amazing thing about them is the midrange and imaging. But the modulus midrange edges it out imo.

Right now I have the 703's as my mains but I'm thinking about getting the 804's as my mains and moving the 703's to my surrounds... That would be sick... How do you like those 704's I found them to be very good, but lacking a bit in the low end...

So, after moving some **** around, getting some new stuff I figured I might as well post some new ones up....

New from other pics, speaker placement (much better now) and RSP-1098 (which is totally the ****), more new stuff to come later maybe some 804S's ;)

honestly, I find the 703's just perfect on the low end. When B&W says they play down to 40hz, they mean it. Its not like other brands that claim it, these speakers actually feel like they play a solid 40hz.
I just got that HD DVD player and was watching Doom. The bass response I got out of the 704's in some scenes was insane, you would have sworn there was a sub somewhere in the room playing.

I was watching The Incredibles yesterday and it has some serious low freq in it. I was super surprised when I could feel air moving on my legs from the ports... It was crazy!!

I don't use my sub when I listen to music anymore especially since I went with separate processor and amplification. But, the low end isn't what I love in B&W's stuff. It is very good, but it's the highs because they are spectacular! I think the 700 Series is that perfect in-between line between the 600's and the 800's. However, I still want the 800's.......

By my estimates they sound best with about 10-12ft between them, when the door is closed I can easily get that distance.

That Mitsubishi tv is like 3' deep and the ML manual says minimum 2' from the back wall. I would guess that 4' from the wall would be just about perfect in this room, but that is the least of my acoustic problems in here right now. That wood floor is creating reflections like a *****. Pretty much T-boney. Though the receiver amps can be quite good in the HT world, none will compete with a very high quality preamp/amp combo. Just seperating the chasis lowers the noise levels.

You would get the best bang for the buck from a DIY setup.... there are pretty nice kits out there. Might look into those, won't have to pick drivers and design x-overs and stuff.

Though the receiver amps can be quite good in the HT world, none will compete with a very high quality preamp/amp combo. Just seperating the chasis lowers the noise levels.

It's a matter of flexibility, too...simply swapping out the preamp to a different one can get you different benefits, something that you can't even think about doing with a simple one-box setup. And monoblocks take that even further, with individual power supplies for each channel and making sure there's no crosstalk at the PA stage - basically lets you go balls to the wall with components without having to worry that everything is crammed into one chassis with all the compromises that brings. Not to mention your e-***** grows <________________> much over HTIB's :naughty:

yikes im not sure, but for that price, i'd m be much more inclined to pick up some premade speakers from a real company.

If B&W EE reads this im sure he will wonder if someone hijacked my computer, becasue i also am an avid DIY'er, but only if it gets you more for you money...

i would take any of these over that dayton kit..the components are chosen or built with the final product in mind, instead of being a generic item, just matched up with other stuff...

I dont think my setup is flashy or anything like that. I was aiming for a clean looking HT setup that sounds good.

I am thinking about switching the front stage to tower speakers but these are actually very good, sound clean at high volume and have a good midbass kick. The sub doesnt overpower the fronstage due to the sub volume being very low. Overall Im happy with the setup and especially the output from the sub.

Yeah they aren't bad at all either it's just they are horrible at reproducing low end. Without the sub they are pretty much all highs. I've been wanting to listen to the newer kliscph stuff like the RF-83 I've read that they are suppose to have lots of low end and sound great.

frzninvt
09-29-2006, 01:41 PM
Find yourself an older pair of Cornwall's and forget the RF-83's. Think of a Heresy with lots of Bass! If the cabinet is too big get a pair of Forte's they are the same width and depth of a Heresy in a taller cabinet with a passive radiator on the back and dig down to about 32Hz.

I run an HT with 4 Klipschorn's, a La Scala center, and Heresy's for rear effects/centers. I used to have Belle's in the place of the Heresy's but they just take up too much real estate. Two Velodyne HGS-15 Servo's take care of the low end. All the crossover networks have been updated with premium parts as well. Dynamics and output are off the scale!

There is a photo a few pages back. I am running a NAD T163 with the latest software and firmware feeding a Sherbourn 7/2100A. I previously ran a pair of rare DBX BX-1 amplifiers each in 4 channel mode. The Sherbourn was a bit of a compromise. I even tried a pair of McIntosh MC-30 tube amps on my mains but found the difference's between them and the DBX BX-1's negligible so I parted with them since they require regular maintenance.

I run a Denon DVD-2900 to a new Hitachi Plasma perched atop the center La Scala.

The level of detail is astounding.

Are you serious? As I first assumed by viewing your post, you are young and you obviously have no experience in home audio and seem to have no knowledge of the leading companies in the industry. And my assumption has easily been proven. You seriously need to post based on facts and not have yourself look like a fool time after time. I’m guessing the only place you’ve seen an Optoma projector has been in a class room. That doesn’t rule out that the company doesn’t make other projectors or displays. Optoma is one of the most innovative and leading edge companies in the display industry and they have the awards and reviews to prove it. But don’t take their opinion, go see a real home theater and decide for yourself. Optoma is one of the first companies to make a 1080p projector (which ships this month) and also the first 100” 1080p DLP in wall HDTV. They also make some of the best portable HD projectors in the world. Optoma is the leading manufacturer (globally) of projectors which, as you probably don’t know as well, most of its guts are made by a small company named Texas Instruments, which as you know, or maybe you don’t because of your arrogance, is also the world leader in manufacturing of digital signal processing and semiconductors. Optoma may make entry level projectors (seriously, what companies don't?) but they also have the industry leading and most advanced projectors on the market that range upwards of a $10,000 price tag. Tell me if this sounds like a “low class” company. Do more research before you make such an egocentric post.

HDMI is the industry standard for HDTV. HDMI is the only connection that provides uncompressed digital audio and video for the highest image quality. There is no conversion, it's pure digital and also caries the audio in a single connection. It's backed by all of the leading consumer electronics manufacturers, and even backed by major motion picture studio's.

Name on type of video/audio connection that is better than this.

i think he meant yours, probably not optima overall they do have cheap ones like yours and a tad cheaper and expensive ones.

.

not bad for an lowerclass brand(image wise).

I didn't think a $1,500 projector was cheap.

Drop that subject guys please. maybe i should have done a bit more research before speaking,as Kicker brought to my attention. I usually do, but still I have explained why i dont like HdMI(Its not because of the image, its because of the recording part)

oh $1500 is cheap...compared to the $10k one you talked about ;)...j/k

Here is an update of my system ever since I moved in with a couple of friends. Everything is mine except for the Tv and DVD player.

If you can, just build your own. Make them like 2' tall and you'd be in great shape

I've heard mixed things about puttng Heresy's on taller stands; you tend to lose bass response by getting them high off the floor.

That's what Forte's have the advantage in, going from sealed to a 15" PR makes a difference :)

You don't have to worry about that with floorstanders ;)... Anyway, I agree with JimJ that tall stands with those might not mix too well... However it looks as if he has a sub to add lowend so he would prolly be ok with standard height stands...

Just discovered this part of the forum. My roots are in HT, but I ended up on this site for car audio knowledge.

I've had this set up for 3-4 years now, other than the PJ which I added about 4 months ago. I'm VERY pleased with the A/V experience it offers :D

CC is a Klipsch KLF-10 that I converted to a CC by removing the baffle and making a new one to move the woofers outboard and mount the horn horizontally.

Rear center was a KLF-C7 but had to sell it a while back :furious: The JBL keeps up fine and no issues with timbre matching.

Optoma H31 that I picked up for $600 connectec via component cable. Puts out a very nice picture and I didn't spend the extra $$$ for an HD version as I wasn't willing to shell out the $$$ for an HD DVD player at this time.

Besides to me it's all about the big screen vs looking that critically at the image being displayed. I tend to just enjoy what I'm watching and not try to pick it apart.

Sub boxes are painted flat black and actually look nice, but the camera flash brings out all the imperfections. Not that anyone sees them anyway.
