ok so correct me if im wrong please. Using a 2.25" vent, if i went 8.5" deep and made the L shape and went 14.75" i would end up at around 30 HZ?

anybody? im getting a 15 se and want to tune it around 30Hz using the external dimensions of 37.5" wide x 16" high and 12.25" deep. im looking at all these calculators but their all giving me different answers and its just confusing me even more.

With those external dimensions, and a port that is 2.25" wide x 14.5" tall (box height) you're only going to get ~2.1 cubes after all displacements if you tune to 30Hz.

im not trying to win any competitions, i just wanna get low bass, would that hurt the woofer if the box is that small?

I'm not overly familiar with the SE's, but RE reccomends 4 cubes ported for SQL, and I probably wouldn't go lower than 3 cubes.

It won't necessarily hurt the driver, but I think you'd yield better results just going sealed. You'll be able to give it the proper volume it needs (~2 cubes), and it should sound great.

how would the low bass compare from the 1 15" to 2 12"s sealed in a 2 cube box? thats why i wanted to port it so i could get more low bass

define low bass. for true low bass sealed is the way to go.....

Put it this way. Tuning a ported box low is done in an attempt to get teh frequency response of a sealed enclosure. You lose a little output going sealed, but the low end is better.

In your case though, I don't think you'd lose much output at all because you're starving the SE if you throw it in 2 cubes ported.

^^^ couldnt have said that anybetter

so in my situation it would be better overall to just go sealed.

i would say go sealed.

remember the lower you tune the longer your port lenght will become.

I wouldn't trust a lot of those subwoofer programs for good estimates ;) They don't take into account a lot of things in general....and can lead you in the wrong direction if you don't have some prior experience.

I've made a ported box before but it was with pvc pipe and its pretty hard to mess that up.
