what are you wanting it to do? play mp3, control active... lots of different stuff to think about. I own a pioneer premier deh-p680mp. it was 270 shipped overnight from sonicelectronix.com it plays mp3 and can control an active frontstage.

Any head unit willl do. I just want some suggestions to look at. I just have stock speakers so im not worried about controlling them. Any alpines would be good but I dont have excperience with them. Dont know how good they are, but a lot of people have them.

This one (http://cgi.ebay.com/Kenwood-eXcelon-XXV-01D-Head-Unit-CD-MP3-WMA-AAC-Player_W0QQitemZ9710930580QQcategoryZ39760QQssPage NameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) may stay under $300 - then again it might not as there are 2 hours left on the listing.

Superb head unit - will do considerably more than necessary for OEM speakers. ;)

Are there any other good kenwood units besides that one for maybe a little lower? That one does look awesome though.

People have mixed reviews, but whats the best out of the 3? Pioneer, Alpine of Kenwood. Simply just good sound.

Depends on the specific model.
Your speakers will play a role in obtaining "simply good sound" as well.

That's a never-ending argument with each manufacturer having their die-hard fans who would never buy anything else (example: me and Kenwood eXcelon - I suggested the XXV-01D as it is what I run and it is sh-weet ;))

Each brand has some really outstanding decks and each brand makes some mediocre decks. Gotta have a model for everyone, right?

I guess you'e got the first step out of the way-deciding on a budget. Now decide what you need a deck to do for you, have a look around at what's available for $300 or less (that's a pretty broad range that a lot of units will fall into), and get the one that you like the best. :)

Do you plan on upgrading anything else?
That will help you decide just how feature packed youll want your new deck to be.
Id suggest looking into a Pioneer deh-p860mp, should be able to find a used one for under $300, or a new one for a little more.
All the features youll need now, with more in case you ever want them. The same could be said for a lot of decks.......
