i'm thinking about doing a shelf-like setup next to my 13w7 in my trunk and also still have space to mount a future carputer in the trunk as well and have it all look clean still.

Thanks! When I recover the trunk I'm thinking of using a dark tan tweed material rather than carpet so it matches the interior colors of the car. I just thik the tweed is a little classier but still easy enough to work with for the casual DIY'er like myself. I was going to recover in vinyl, but I hear its much more difficult and very labor intensive. Is tweed pretty straight forward to work with like carpet or are there other considerations that have to be made?

@Darren: I'm guessing you have an e46...lol...do you mind taking pics of the process when you get around to it?

http://www.caraudio.com/gallery/2/5/8/8/8/100_0161.JPG

Specs? Well, its big and heavy. Its close to 6 cuft and actually extends over the wheel wells and slants to the slope of the back seats. I built it to take advantage of all the room possible and still leave me with some cargo space. Heres a link to the thread that has the pics of the box. http://www.caraudio.com/forum/showthread.php?t=167451 (post 17). I made the box bigger than I wanted, but its turned out to be good cause now I can mess with the volume to get the proper tuning and whatnot. I still have to work on the beauty plate somemore on the left amp rack, and need to make one for the front baffle and also the right amp rack. And if you're thniking, "how is he going to get to the spare tire?", well I have thought about that and came up with something pretty clever. I went to Lowes and got two of the door/gate hinges that are 6" triangles on each side, and have them bolted to the back of the box and the floor, right underneath the rear seats. This allows me to lift the front of the box up, and get to the spare, and also keeps the box from sliding around. I'll post sommore pics tomorrow of the back in the other thread, I dont want to hijack this one. And its going to be covered in agate carpet to match the stock carpet in there now. But bets of all, I can still use my carog cover to hide all this stuff!:up2somet: :naughty: :D

This may not compare to some of the others but here it is. It was my first install and the creativity was severely hindered by the size of the trunk.

how do you like the iridium? i was thinking about using one

That Iridium Sub is freeking fantastic. Extremely musical, but hits plenty hard. I'm only feeding it about 300w rms and it kicks ***, with 700 or so (well below it's limit) I can't imagine how killer it would be. I heard a 12 in a dudes BMW and it had about 1000w rms of Dls power and was rediculously killer. I highly recomend the Iridium for anyone who wants truly musical sub-bass, not just some woofer that hits hard.

What is the basic structure of a rack and are they hard to put together? Are their any tutorials about how to design one?

Mine was basically a particle board upside down "T" that the amp is bolted to, and then a really this carpeted plywood cover upside down "L" shape to trim it out and make it look tight. Pretty basic for mine.

Common sense and creativity are your friend. Just find a spot to mount it, build around it making sure to leave room for wires. Try not to mount the amp upside down or choke it off from the airflow either.
