I am no definitive expert on the Type R subs (having never used them) but what I see over and over and over from those that use them with good results is a general consensus that the Alpine Type R doesn't sound good sealed. So I would suggest that whatever shop you went to employs a bunch of tools that haven't a clue what they are talking about...

Well, talk to Mark Potts or one of the other TCAB boys about ported vs. sealed with a Type R in pretty much any application (trunk car, hatchback, SUV/van, etc) and see what they tell you. :)

I have 1 12" DVC Type R...All info I gathered here is that it best to go ported. I will be building a ported box for it!

The shop, like any other shop, were blowing smoke. Shops have no clue what they say half the time.

Ported type-r's > sealed type-r's.

49 w x 13.5 tall x 16.5 deep if I remember correctly. It comes out to be 5 cuft. total shared space. As far as the port goes, I can't remember the exact sizes of it off hand. I will be doing some measurement for you and another guy tonite and will let you know the exact dimensions.

It hits hard enough for me. It doesn't shake **** a ton, but the Zippo trick isn't a problem. With the music I listen to (metal and so on) it still hits nicely. With rap, it hits to the point I can't stand it.
