that face had a tendency to quit working. pioneer's top end decks were nice but seem to have problems

It looks good but like everybody else will tell you is that the more moving parts, the more it might malfunction. That's why i got 860mp.

EDIT: iceteebone you beat me to it:laugh:

wats so special about the 9835?

lots of tuning ability, pre alpine-gone-crap era, top of the line unit, cheaper these days used, timing correction, looks pretty, etc etc ;)

Means jack ****. No need to have higher volt pre-outs if you don't have any noise in your system at the momeny...

Great HU. IF you can find a problem free one. Yea Ive been beat to it many times already, but just to confirm what everyone else already said..860/960s had more return rates than all others combined..

Read alotta reviews about people having problems with dead pixels, preout problems, and some other stuff.

I've never heard of any "pixel problems" but I guess anything is possible. Preout problems with the 860 and 960 were common and ALL of the dual faced decks Pioneer released had problems with the ribbon cable connecting the outer face. Those are pretty much the only problems I've heard of.

To the thread starter I would definitely go with the 860 in lieu of the 960. Its slightly cheaper, better looking, and more reliable.;)
