Alright, this isnt exactly correct yet, as far exact measurements go, but What I want to know is will a box like this work, with the port firing and facing like it is, and where the sub will be placed...Also I would like to give a special thanks to iceteebone for working with me on this. And if anyone wants to know the box will be sitting just like it is in the drawings, in the trunk of an 02 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder convertible....Thats why space is so limited.

Shure it will work but you'll obviously have to account for port displacement

davidfre21
03-08-2006, 11:04 PM
gonna have some nasty air flow inside the box...

Any reason why it angles like that in the inside?

Directed towards eldorados post

yeah I know that....I was just making sure, that with the port basically cutting the box in half wouldnt cause any issues

Well david, Ive had a time and a half designing a box for this car, there is acutally more room behind the seat of my single cab truck. Like I said earlier the dimins arent exact quite yet, but I need ~26 inches of port, and if I dont bend the port, the subs magnet will hit the port. Im am opent to suggestions if any one wants to throw them my way

maldecido33

seems there are better ways to route the port.

Aeroports an option ?
Laberynth ?

Well, Like Ive told many people on the forum already, Ive already build 2 boxes for this car, and I just cant seem to get it sounding right with areoss (or my version with PVC pipe) So im trying a slot ported box now....Now that I look at it, maybe I could run the port along the side and then accross the back (Ill try to sketch it up quick so yall can get an Idea

Eldorado

Dare i say.....seal it

wont work...port has to fire on the side, ^^^where you have the port firing is literally fractions of an inch from the rear wall of the trunk...If anyone has seen the trunk of a Mitsubishi spyder yall would know....

Eldorado

Laberynth ???????
Aero's ( real thing) would prob work
What about having the port front firing ? Wrap it around the inside kinda like a C

Chevyaudio
03-08-2006, 11:20 PM
The side the port is firing in my plan, is the only side it can fire....all of the other sides (includeing with sub face side) are to close to the walls of the trunk

Eldorado
03-08-2006, 11:22 PM
You cant fire it fowards or upwards ?

Eldorado

How can you not fire upwards ?
Make a laberynth/L with the port facing up
Honestly...how hard is that ?

Chevyaudio
03-08-2006, 11:27 PM
well, The way the box fits in the trunk the sub is probably too close to the trunk lid (the box sits just like it is drawn) and I dont want any cancelation with the trunk lid

any prob with that design?

Chevyaudio
03-08-2006, 11:29 PM
nope...David FTW...Why didnt I think of that, probably because Im not a box designer....So is that 26 inches with 2.5 inches of port width

davidfre21
03-08-2006, 11:30 PM
i just sketched rough, no measurements.. but enough to give u the idea... U get to apply the measurement urself :D

saywhat?
03-08-2006, 11:30 PM
why cant u go with a little less port area. would drop the length of the port pretty drastically.

Chevyaudio
03-08-2006, 11:32 PM
care to elborate Saywhat....im stumbling through this never really designed a box before (didnt really do this one Icetee did and Im just modifying it)

i started drawing that in my head before i read past his pics ;) , i saw the port lay out and automaticaly cringed

But if u want credit, its all yours :D

lies all lies !
oh well, at least the problem is solved

iceteebone
03-08-2006, 11:40 PM
narrowing the port will drop the port area down to 23 sq. in. and shrink the port length approximately 7-8 inches

iceteebone
03-08-2006, 11:43 PM
if you shrink the port you can run it straight and not have to bend it

Chevyaudio
03-08-2006, 11:43 PM
Icetee, I think im going to keep your Idea with the 2.5 inch wide port at 26 inches and do a labarynth port, I really dont want to drop the port area much more, I dont want to run into port noise

iceteebone
03-08-2006, 11:47 PM
what tunning frequency did you want? if i remember correctly that was 2.2 cubes net so you are looking at ~ 34 hz

ngsm13
03-08-2006, 11:47 PM
Indeed.

nG

Chevyaudio
03-08-2006, 11:48 PM
yeah really no specific frequency anywhere from 36-32 and at least 2 cubes

iceteebone
03-08-2006, 11:51 PM
yeah really no specific frequency anywhere from 36-32 and at least 2 cubes

25.5 will get 34 hz. and put you close to 2.2 cubes net

Chevyaudio

with the labarynth style.

I really dont like laberynth but in your case it seems best.
And i looked at the trunk for that car, pretty puny unless you use the bumpouts on the front of the trunk.

what program did u use to make ur box?

and for the guy who asked, that program is sketch-up

Don't do it that way fool...

You want the port exit to be in-line... not 90degrees...

nG

Chevyaudio
03-09-2006, 12:40 AM
well everyone said to use the labarynth, because of space restrictions....all of this work for a box that isnt even mine....geeesh

All I'm saying is you wouldn't want the port exit on that face...

nG

Chevyaudio
03-09-2006, 12:44 AM
thats the only face it can exit on....as I said earlier in the thread all of the other faces are too close to the walls or lid of the trunk...cancelation would be a b1tch, **** even the sub is only about 5 inches from the deck lid.

iceteebone
03-09-2006, 12:49 AM
if you cut the port to 2" you can make a straight shot, but that'll throw off the volume a little and the tuning.

Chevyaudio
03-09-2006, 12:54 AM
Im hell bent on keeping the port 2.5...Ive got about as much MDF as home depot at my house...Ill build this box and see how it sounds...if it sounds like ****....oh well Ill try another one.

Eldorado
03-09-2006, 01:22 AM
I made an enclosure with a port that fired on the side.
It sounds fine.

nissanrider06
03-09-2006, 01:27 AM
put the sub on the front of the box versus the top

I dont like the port exit all that much. IMO a 90 degree bend then the port opening directly to the outside isnt really that good looking when you look into the box, and there MAY be a bit more noise with the bend so close to the opening.

I would personally build it more like this:
