I think you built your box very solid. I have no doubts that it should perform very cleanly. If it were me, I would have tried to incorporate a few more rounded edges on my mdf baffle. It can give a smoother apearance.

Nexson
03-07-2006, 01:04 AM
actually, it is the HFP kit which stand for Honda Factory Performance, and you can order it basically from any dealer, or dealer wesbite. I ordered mine as I could afford it. Front, rear and then the sides, total was maybe...around $750, anyhow i like it because it is real clean and bolts right on (did it myself), and best of all, it a harden plastic and comes painted, the HFP kit is a likely candiate for the accord.

but thanks for the props, i do appreicate it.

ok so i really need sum suggestions, Being a novice still, i orginally cut the circle too big, 1/2 in to big, so I was getting air seepage, anyhow I fixed that problem by creating a separate ring and mounting that ring to the box and keeping sealed with chualkin, anyhow the speaker now sounds amazing but the box looks like poopie. I am going to re-wrap the box I need something that is going to be able to take the curves, i might even mold that outter ring to the flat panel, but i need suggestions as to what to wrap it with. thanks guys

You say your gonna re wrap it. I would pull the ring off you put on. make sure the baffle is completely smooth. Then glue the new ring on. Once the glue is dry take some kitty hair to the edge of the circle. Then sand it smooth. It would make a much better looking transition. And wouldn't look like an afterthought. Then wrap that bastage in some carpet and be done with it. :)

Chevyaudio
03-23-2006, 12:38 PM
Lesson learned.....Messure 5 times cut Once.

and I agree with Ramos, your gonna have to mold that MDF ring into the box, for it to look good.

Nexson

ok, so im sorry to be honest, but i have no idea about this cat hair thing, bcuz i dont know what you guys mean, do you mean literal cat hair or fiberglass. i had a thought to cut around that new ring and make a big hole and enter that new ring back flush, and then fiberglass the new circle backing and front to the mdf and then sand.
p.s. i cut a 10'' hole to be begin with cuz i thought all 10'' subs were 10'' holes, well i was wrong lol

ramos

Kitty hair, bondo hair, marglass, and several other products are brand names of fiberglass reinforced fillers. :)

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b104/Nexson/100_0908.jpg
ouch thats looks like it belongs in the JMac sig of lemans hall of fame boxes.

the best fix would of been to make a ring out of MDF remove the front carpet put this ring over the existing hole, glue and nail it in and recarpet the front.

Nexson
03-23-2006, 03:43 PM
^ i think you and I have the same idea, to better explain it, i would guide the jigsaw around the actual 2nd ring, then from here i would have a big whole, i would then remove that ring from the flat panel (front) and enter that ring into the whole i just cut, now how would I 100% seal that ring to the hole?

ramos
03-23-2006, 03:48 PM
I would put the new ring over top of the too large hole then just feather the edges wit the bondo hair. It would be a lot stronger :)

Nexson
03-23-2006, 03:54 PM
so your saying strip the carpet and mold the ring to the front of the box?

not to get off subject here, but i need suggestions for re-wraping the box.

ramos
03-23-2006, 04:08 PM
Yep, I wouldn't bother trying to cut and replace a large disk in the middle of your baffle. It's gonna be a weak spot no matter how much bracing you add doing it that way.

What do you mean re wrapping ? re carpeting, or rewrapping with fleece ? :)

Nexson
03-23-2006, 04:24 PM
well basically im going to be wrapping the whole box, but the carpet i used bends but almost represents cardboard in the fact that it wont bend to much, which lead me to have to cut the carpet often, i want something that bends well, or do you recommand laying such a foam on the curves, then rpoceeding to wrap it in the carpet. so, then you all think i should bold that ring to the actual box then go from there, bcuz whatever you all say is what ill do, cuz I have trust. Im very good with fiberglass and bondo, so its not a problem.

Nexson
03-23-2006, 04:32 PM
ok so heres the deal, the red part is where the ring will be molded to the front box, and the yellow linges represent wood that will be attached to the box to make it look part of the trunk. opnions please
http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b104/Nexson/ash7ut123.jpg

ramos
03-23-2006, 04:39 PM
Now you got the idea. If you really want to make an exact fit. You could pull the weather stripping, stretch the fleece from the front of the enclosure over the lip that the weatherstripping attaches to. Then put the weatherstripping back on to hold the fleece in place. Slather the weather stripping with a heavy coat of Vaseline. and resin it. Picture perfect fit, that looks factory :)

Nexson
03-23-2006, 04:48 PM
I see what you mean with the fleece, but do you think I should use wood instead, since it will make a cleaner look when the carpet is glued to it, plus all that resin in my trunk concerns me, anyhow I have an idea to put a fleece from the front of the box over the ring, so i can get that same mold from the front of the back to the 2nd ring, does this seem like a good idea?

Nexson
03-23-2006, 06:54 PM
