View Full Version : is a nissan 240sx considered a sports car........
rear wheel drive, decently light, basically no rear seats. It's a subcompact... not a pure bred sports car, but not just a hatchback either. It's... a poor man's sports car.

The only 240sx you'd see me in is the rare convertible. I believe it worth between $8k-$12k in excellent condition with low miles. Other than that, I wouldn't want one.
Although I did have a Mazda MX-3 that I liked.

Yup - they're all over Australia. My wife reckons it's an awful girlie name for a car that supposedly has a performance edge to it......

I would kill for a 240sx! It has always been my dream car. I had the chance to buy a 240 for $600 great physical condition, low miles, there was just a problem with it that was unknown at the time. They sold it, and it turned out that there was a wire touching metal on the inside that was shorting out something. They moved the wire and it ran perfect, wish I bought it :crap:
Atleast I have nearly the same engine as a 240 in my alty KA24DE

i dont know if i could get used to driving standard with my [left] hand. i think that would be hard as hell.
The hardest thing (to me) about getting used to driving a right-hand-drive car (on the left side of the road!) was having my right arm against a door whereas I am accostomed to open space on my right.
My brother-in-law has a Ford Telstar (exact same thing as a Mazda 626) that is a manual tranny......he got hammered one night while I was overseas and I had to drive his car for him to get him and the car home.
It felt a bit odd right at first shifting with my left hand but as the pedals are all where they are supposed to be (from left to right it's still clutch, brake, gas) it doesn't take as much getting used to as one might think.
It's getting prepared mentally (after driving for years on the right side of the road) to pull out of a parking lot and stay left that takes the most getting used to!

if it's not a sports car, then neither are the rest of the honduh's that directly compare to it (preludes, integras, etc etc)
240s are sick, i still can't get over their tight *** turning radii. i've never been in a car that could take such sharp turns (except for maybe a civic hatch...)
saywhat?

yea i noticed mine could make a turn on a small street or if its wet i just tap the throttle and around it goes... but one thing i didn't like was when its wet out u have to be carefull gettin on and off freeway ramps cause it will slide and u slide when u hit the brakes

Yeah, the 240 is technically a sports car. I was going to get one my self and do the swap blah blah everybody wants to do it, but I bought a turbo supra instead. A freind of mine has a RB25DET in his 91'.
Yeah, I think I messed up. The handling in the supra is no where near as tight as that of a 240. But it still pretty quick stock. Oh well. One thing at a time.
But if you're looking for one already done, there a tons of shops that are selling customized 240's for cheap. 10K gets you an SR20DET w/ FMIC TT ECU, custom paint, 17" rims, springs and a system. Just look around.

As for the real 240sx? Yeah I consider them a sports car! I love em! Im a matter of fact, I DRIVE ONE! But yeah? the americanized one we have here state side are pure ****! it aint a true sports car unless its got an SR or CA in them, or ultimately the RB! But for us? 03-03-2006, 04:21 PM
Being a fellow 240 lover, i have to say the **** probe is gay. BUT your information is kinda biased. First of all, the KA is not a crappy motor by any means. AND its not just a truck motor. It was used in a variety of cars, altimas, vans, 240s, trucks. The KA is a very tough motor and with a little modification can be really quick. With stock internals and a well tuned turbo setup, it has been proven to produce 579 REAR WHEEL HORSEPOWER. By upgrading the internals, you can get even more.
Bumpin-dah8o8
03-03-2006, 04:32 PM
By any means I aint saying that the KA's are total crap, but im just saying that the original engines there supposed 2 come with, I would rather prefer them. But yeah? my KA is still going strong, I like it! but yeah? its wouldnt be my choice for a powerplant. And yeah, my friend has a turbo KA ~N~ it sure does pull like crazy! but like I said I would rahter prefer the SR's. not 2 be talking crap but they sound much better 2 my ears.

The same engine is found in the Mercury Cougar, as well ... 170 horsepower was pretty decent in the mid-90s, believe it or not ...
What's wrong with an FF platform ? Oh, yeah, I forgot, because it has handling disadvantages at the handling limits ... That's SOOO important to the average person ...
I admit that is really good for that time. And I learned something as well. And theres nothing wrong with FF cars. Its just working on them I find kinda more difficult if you know what I mean.
