So I just bought this used for a good price, I am upgrading from an Eclipse 3424. Everything about the 8053 is great except for one thing. The radio reception is awful, as in it seems like the antenna is unplugged. But it isn't, I checked already. Has anyone experienced this problem? My old 3424 had great reception, and I can't believe a deck this nice would be so much worse. I'm just wondering if it's something that can be fixed, or if I'm just going to have to live with it for now. My car is a 2002 Impreza, if that makes any difference. Thanks in advance.

I get great reception out of mine. Are you sure that it is hooked up? maybe the plug is bad.

So do you guys think it is fixable? Maybe it's just a loose connection inside?

could be loose connection. i had to use an adapter cause my oem antenna was smaller then the one for the eclipse deck, so i had to make it bigger

So you're saying you enlarged the antenna receptacle on the deck? Did you just stretch it out with something? I should be able to just to squeeze it back down then, right?

the antenna plug in the car was smaller then the antenna input on the deck, so an adapter was needed. if that is the case, the antenna will probably still fit in, but will be loose cause it's too small

So how would I make it smaller again? There's that hard plastic sleeve around the antenna cable, so I don't think I can just squeeze it with pliers. Any ideas?

OK, I'll check it out after work. Must be a very thin adapter, cause it didn't seem that loose when I plugged the antenna in. Thanks for the help ice.

if it doesn't seem loose it may not be the problem, but try it and see

Definetely a problem. My CD8051 also had great reception and the 8053 has the same radio tuning circuitry from what i understand.

all you did was change decks? If you changed harnesses, maybe the power antenna wire isn't connected? What amps do you use?

I used the old harness that was previously installed, just unplugged the 3424 and plugged in the 8053. My car doesn't have a power antenna, just a regular pull out type. Amps are in my sig, Viper 400.2 and JBL BP300.1.
