Eclipse head unit output voltage ?

Need some help here please. I'm interested in purchasing an eclipse h/u, probably the 8445. The thing i'm worried about is the 8v preouts. I am going to run a Merlin MD2 and and the max input voltage on the amp is 6v. Will these be compatible? I've looked online and can't really find a straight answer. I've read the higher output voltage won't hurt anything, but will cause the amplifier to clip. Is this a true statement? Does anyone else run a h/u with a higher output voltage than what the amplifier is rated? I want to hear especially from the eclipse guys. What kind of results have you had? Should I forget the eclipse and go with another brand with less preout voltage?

it'll only do those 8v on MAX volume with 0dB material.

I'm presently running my Eclipse 8053 (8V outputs) with amps that have a maximum rated input voltage of 1.5V and have no problems at all.

what amps would those be...sounds like some sort of old school goodness...
