View Full Version : Is 20 watts x4 really enough ??
I was planning on buying a set of infinity comps (6x8's i think) but was wondering if powering them off the HU would be enough coupled w/ my sub (12" xxx @ 1 ohm [2500 watts] ported 2.1cu box) or is the sub gonna drown out my highs unless i cop a multi channel amp ?
also any reccomendations as far as a 4 channel amp to use for the comps ? i believe they are 90-100 watts rms something like that
seems like they would be underpowered, no ?
getting two sets of comps btw so 4 channel amp i think i would need (if 20 will not be enough)

you could always try it first... then go ahead and get a 4 channel if it isn't enough... rarely are comps powered well by a HU

right, well i was trying to keep things as simple as possible
looks like i might have to get the amp for my comps then
so in that case, all the multi-channel amps RMS ratings are based still on the driven ohm loads ... so how would i measure that when powering comps ?

Built-in amps in head unit are a joke compared to an outboard component amplifier. Buy one and you'll NEVER want to use head-unit power again :)

just get a nice 75 x 4 amp and you'll never need or want more power to your speakers.
