Well, I built these in three days, start to finish, no joke.

Everything that you see is made outa walnut, and the interior is birch ply, everything is glued or glued and screwed together. I don't have the drivers yet...(christmas:veryhapp: ), but I am looking forward to getting them in. I built them in our high school woods shop (being in good with the teacher means I get to come back after I graduate and work all day...hehe) I built the first one in 2 days, and the second one, today, start-to-finish. Goes alot easier building it when you know what the hell your doin... I don't have any pics of the insides or construction, but there is a little over 2m of passageways and a 50hz cutoff freq. They need alot more finish work done to them. Sanding, scraping glue, sanding, sanding, and sanding, and I'm ashamed to say, a little putty :(. But they are in perfect working order, I only have one terminal cup so the wire is getting ran out the mouth of the horn on one of them for now till Radio shack sends me my other one. But somethin makes me think that these will be nicer lookin than the average dorm room setup... :naughty: And my total cost in this project minus the drivers is prob around 35.00 bucks. Free walnut is wonderful isn't it?

Sweetness stones, very nice work, but those look kinda familiar :D ... But the real question is, how do they sound, cause I can't wait to get my drivers.

why use the step-style on the mouth and in the throat there? why not just use a slanted piece of wood?

doesnt that cause alot of weird reflections or somthing?

It's factored in to the design. The FE206 horns (the 8" version) has all sorts of strange pieces in the horn mouth designed to kill internal reflections and clear up low bass response.

Some horns (like the Buschhorn design) do use a slanted horn mouth. Others use curved pieces of wood.

I didn't build them, I stole them Har,Har, Har!!.
Google image search
Keyword- FE103E
I was curious to see the internal design and what the speakers looked like so I Googled it instead of bugging you for pictures.

Sweet! Looks great! Let us know how they sound.

One thing - those Fostex's are known for horrifically long break-in periods...so don't judge their sound based on a 20-minute audition. They take days to weeks to fully achieve their true voice...very low Qts full range drivers have a nasty habit of doing that.

Thanks for the info!!!! Ok, heres a stupid question also, is the best way to break them in just play lots and lots of music? So ya'll won't get a "review" for a little while.

They sound awsome, I love them. Good low end, well, good everything, these are by far the best sounding piece of equipment I have heard, but that isn't saying much...

I am using a Yamaha receiver from probably the early to mid 90's that I got cheap off ebay. It's pretty impressive for a 4" driver.

What's the total size? Sorry if it's been asked, I've only read parts of the thread. They really do look nice..

They are about 33" tall, 15" deep, and 7" wide. I don't remember the exact dimensions, its late and been a hard day, but thats pretty close.

I'm making a set... that's it, maybe not these exactly, but Imma make something... I've been wanting to for a few months now... which means I'll have to get a receiver... can't use that Audiovox Self unit anymore, lol...
