HEy guys, I am new here. After reading some stuff and looking at some subs I decided I wanted to build my own enclosure instead of buying. I am new to carpentry and never used a router before so I took my sweet time doing it right. I used 3/4 mdf and gorilla glue. The box contains 42 2in countersunk screws and 1.5in front. I filled in all the screw holes and also recessed the AV12 sub. It is exactly 1cb ft sealed. I am going to laminate it tomorrow with a flat matte laminate. I chose this route to be different, I dont like carpet. Any suggestions and comments are welcomed.

thanks!

thats a nice job, especially for your first one. Very simple, but looks to be very well done. What sub is that gonna be the home to?

Wow good job, good to see someone that actually researches before they begin a project.

Next time you could use cheap-o Elmer's wood glue, it will form a better bond between the wood because it will be chemical, rather than the physical bond that Gorilla Glue creates.

You did an awsome job man, give us a review on the sub!

Thanks guys, it is my first one so i wanted to make it simple. I have plans in the near future (home speakers). I only want to use half of my trunk so a sealed box was the best bet. What do you guys think of the laminate idea??

John at av told me to build a 1cb ft sealed box with 1.5 lbs of polyfil. And this is what I built.

Well guys I laminated the box, after 3 hurs and $90 I didnt like the look. It looked like I bought it at Ikea. SO, carpet it is. I went to walmart and Joann's fabrics, NO good. Can someone in NY help me out find carpet?? Dont know where to go.

thanks

No pics, sorry. I was so pissed I jsut chissled it all off. I dont like the look of it or formica. Looks cheap to me. IN the next few months I am going to build a new box and use 1/2 in maple wood on the outside and stain, thats they way to go for me.

thanks

that should look nice, but maple is just a ***** to stain you would be better off oiling it. From what I've seen and what my advanced cabinet making teacher told me is if you don't do all the sanding perfectly the stain will look like ****.

Whats an aeroport??

Gnfanatic
12-20-2005, 09:40 PM
But the box is a sealed enclosure, Is this port just a hole in the box?? you got pics?? As you can see I am new to this :)

dont listen to that guy, hes retarded as hell. they are not designed for high notes, nor would it help your box if u only made room for sealed. what an aero port actually is, is a VERY smooth pvc pipe that is fitted with a flared end at each end. works very well for competition setups.

please do not just "add" an aeroport. if u do go ported they are a great option, and do help output in most cases over slot. BUT do not just "add them" to a sealed box, go back and rework ur plans, or get in touch with me to do so..

Thanks, I appreciate the help, calm down guys it the Holidays, do this Next Monday. I didnt want to build a ported box due to the size of them. In the near future I will buy a treo sub and see what kind of ported box I can build. I dont want a monstor box in my trunk for jsut a 12in sub.

thanks

Excellent work there bro, I think that is the key to building a good box. Don't work too fast, just take your time and do it right!

Thanks alot guys for the comments. Your right, take your sweet *** time, over think everything and meassure twice. I tried home depot and walmart for carpet. they had none. So I went to a local stereo place. They had a bunch to choose from so I got the dark charcoal. 2 yards for $10. The black would have looked great but my trunk is dark charcoal so I stuck with it. I should have a stereo in 2 weeks :)

merry xmas.
