View Full Version : How about ribbon or planar tweeters in a kick panel???

I know planar tweeters are not that durable but it does sound like the sound reproduction is incredible. Is a kick pod a more stable location??? It would be really intresting to set up a set in a pair of kick panels. Any opinions? Can this work??? How about ribbons?

Here's where mine are

And npdang's

Mine are doing just fine down there, as long as you keep dust away from the ribbon element. Some n00b passengers of mine say "Whoa what's this foot rest?" and proceed to put their foot on it. Then I stab them and tell them to take their foot off. Even after all the kicking they receive, they're still doing just fine.

I would not try to install a plannar or ribbon tweeter in a kickpanel. You will have problems with people putting their feet there and will have to deal with leg blockage of the high frequencies. The dash or A-pillar is a better place, although that poses it's own problems.

i have thought about a ribbon also but i think the imaging may be a little off due to their shape... how is the imaging with them? I also had been looking at some serious looking Hi-Vi tweets but they only take 5RMS...my amp would blow that to pieces.

If you had to choose, would you use a ribbon or a planar like a Neo3 or 8 from Bohlender Graebener. Reasonalbe price from Parts Express.

i would do them in the dash if you have room, near the windshield, or i would do a conventional tweet in the a pillar.

Turn your gain down all the way. They will get loud enough before your amp even sends it 5w for a continuous amount of time. Dont be surprise if the tweeters receive only one or two real watts.
