View Full Version : "Proper" Install of speakers...

I have a pair of Infinty Kappa 4x6 speakers. I took a study break to put them in the dash of my 92 silverado pickup... And I noticed there is no "cavity" to speak of... The dash is wide open, I can reach in and put my hand out the hole. :eyebrow:
Is this considered infinite baffle? Will this allow for proper speaker performance? It sounds okay- no bass response though, just "miff" bass. My friend has similar ones in the door of his ranger and they POUND for little speakers.
Problem is the kappas barely fit- i had to wedge them in with a screwdriver against a platic heating duct, so there is no room for a baffle type construct.
Advice?

Basically, how do I improve midbass response from a less than ideal speaker location that has to "seal" to speak of?

Your not going to improve mid-bass with speakers in the dash. either build kick pannels or door pods.

I kina figured that...
Maybe I'll move the Kappas to the pillars and put some horn tweets in the dash...

seriously the dash is one of the worst place you can put speakers. You get all kinds of unwanted reflection off of the windshield.
how on earth do you think you are going to put 4x6's in the freakin pillars?
get pics of the dash\doors mang :p:

You arent going to get any midbass out of 4x6 plates. They are the best 4x6 plates I have ever heard. They get loud and can take plenty of watts. However, like I said, you arent going to get any midbass out of them.

Okay, basically- I want to have nice mids and highs in my truck.
Amps-
Alpine F545 75(rms)x4 to 4 ohms
PPI A600.2 300watts x2 to ?
Speakers-
4 kenwood eXcelon 6 1/4" coax
2 infinity 4x6 plates
2 Optimus Horn Tweets
2 Rockford Fosgate Punch 5 1/4" coax
Pair Eclipse 2 way xovers
Pair Boss 2 way xovers
I have never had a decent chance to have real mids/highs b4, and I want to do it right. That is the stuff I have to work with.
