Well now that I do this I feel like I may have hyped it up too much for you guys :p: This is what I would call Phase IIa of my HT build, Phase I being the equip. acquisitions.
These will be the high-range drivers in my 2-way book shelves that I will be building in maybe a decade at the rate I'm going :(
My decision was based on the criteria that the tweeter could:
a) handle the power of my Forte amp.
b) play well above 20khz.
c) have a low Fs (lower than 1khz)
d) have a response as flat as possible in the audible range.
e) cost less than the $400+ per tweeter Scan-Speak R2904/7000 that I REALLY wanted :)
With that in mind I ended up deciding between a Fostex and a Vifa tweeter. I know, I know. The last thing I'd EVER want to get is a driver made by the company that gives tube geeks hope. I decided on the former because it offered better off-axis response and had a smoother run up to 20khz (they rated it's response all the way to 50k) than the Vifa.
As you see, I also obtained some de-flex pads for my enclosures if I ever get that far.
