I have some throwaway "Fusion" tweeters and Goldwood white 7" mids in my front doors with only a cap on the tweets as the x-over. I'm prob. gonna get the Dayton 2.5KHz x-overs soon.

In any case, here's my issue: I had the comps running of the HU, and with the bass turned up it would clip at moderate volume. I hooked my Kicker IX404 up to them, turned the gains up so I get ~1.5 more volume from the comps, and it clips basically at the same level it clipped before (@ 1.5 lower a volume). The cones seem to be working really hard as well, but the bass does not at all match the excursion. In any case,

1. Should I get a more powerful 4-ch amp?
2. Should I get an active x-over and highpass it above 40Hz?
3. For people who understand the nature of clipping, will the x-over solve my problem? The sound from the tweets is undistorted.
4. Is it possible that the overshooting of the woofer is fighting the amp, thus clipping the signal somehow?

I'm baby steps away from ditching my subs but I want the crossover to be perfect. Perhaps when I get my Tangband 6x9's I'll be satisfied and I can take the bass burden off the fronts. Anyhoo lemme know...

check polarity, crossover settings, and maybe the h/u is the problem. if you have a faulty component, or if the h/u has accidentally been fed 12 volts back through the rca's, maybe from a bad amp or faulty install, that can cause the h/u to clip automatically.

80 Hz???? I should have just kept my **** stock 4"s in the door...I wanted that solid upgraded stock system bass in front, ****...

Any recommendations on good x-overs? Would those Lanzar level brands be ok? Or should I go passive?
