Listing here. (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-VlKQT0b1qbv/cgi-bin/prodgroup.asp?g=400&l=A&avf=Y&o=p&nvpair=FFSpeaker%5FSize|4X6+++++++#see_all)

This is just a listing from Crutchfield, I may or may not recommend she purchase from them, depends on how strict her budget is. Components are out of the question.

So if you could give me a clear winner or at least help me narrow it down some.

jl audio tr400cxi. it's a 4" coax, but comes with a 4x6 mounting plate. about 100 bucks a pair roughly, and for a 4" an exceptional sounding speaker. probably the best midbass response you'll get out of a reasonably priced 4" speaker. most 4x6's just ****. or a boston acoustics 746 set. a 4" component set on a plate. alpine also makes a good plate setup like that, don't recall what the model # is off the top of my head.

93 model...

so you would suggest a JL 4" or another top 4" over the 4 x 6 speakers? There are some good brands on crutchfield...

Yeah, I have some Type S 6.5's in my truck, so I kind of want to go with something different for her.

Basically its Boston, Pioneer, Kicker, Polk, or Rockford.

my GF has the Alpine 4X6 plates in her truck. i installed em real quick and wasnt to impressed. i took em out. wired them in phase this time and sealed the speaker off with some foam tape. they way the speakers mounted to the grils ther was about 1/2 gap that would let the back and front waves come throug. after this was all done. i was VERY impressed. pretty strong mid bass out a 4" woofer off deck power. the tweeter is a tad on the bright side for me.

Going once... going twice...

If anyone should see a reason for her not to buy these speakers, let them speak now or forever hold their peace...

Keep in mind: Components are out of the question, an amp is out of the question, and she (being a girl) would like to keep costs down.

kinda hard to miss... at the top of the screen on their home page is a drop down menu labeled 'boston model names' and it's the very first one on the list ;)

746's are a no go...

you really don't need an amp for them, they will do perfectly fine off of deck power, but they will still walk circles around the s75's...

746s off the H/U should be fine. Thats what I would go with if I was getting 4x6s

if you want a warranty, then don't buy it there. boston does NOT authorize any kind of internet sales, aside from crutchfield afaik, and their selection is limited. if you buy a boston (or jl audio for that matter) product online, there is no warranty whatsoever. even if you ship it back to them to try and pay them to fix something, they'll tell you that you are SOL. they are EXTREMELY strict about this policy. go to www.bostonacoustics.com and find your nearest dealer. then you get a great speaker with a great warranty.

that being said, good luck :)

Yeah, but probably much more expensive if I were to buy from a dealer. Plus, they might not carry them. Are the 746's a discontinued model or what? They look kind of old...

I was also looking at these over the Boston's I mentioned earlier:

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-5Qx4aioMLoT/cgi-bin/prodview.asp?i=1086412CFP&s=0&cc=01

Will they be better than the S75's I mentioned earlier?

the 746's have been around a while, however are a current model. i believe they label it as a specialty speaker. msrp (dealer price) on them should be around the 120-130 range. they most definitely sound considerably better than the s75's. don't get me wrong, i would still take the s75's over the infinity, but the 746 is a huge improvement over the 75's.

Wow, the S75's are better than the Infinity's? I thought Infinity was pretty good for SQ.

Alright, I'll see what my sister wants to do about the 746's...

Alright, from what I gather

746 > S75 > Reference

Because she's on such a tight budget, I'm gonna have to go with the S75's... Sorry guys, if it were my ride I'd have 'em, but the girl really needs SOMETHING to replace her factory speakers (both of which are blown; one makes no noise, one sounds chitty), and money is a concern.

Excellent help though, guys. Sorry I couldn't follow through with the suggestion, but sometimes circumstances are a *****
