View Full Version : Noob in need of a box design

Hi guys

Typical noob question/request I'm affraid!!:emb:

I've recently got myself an Alpine Type R 12 (SWR1240) and am looking for a box to house it in.

It needs to fit in the fairly shallow boot of a Mk 2 Honda CRX, the dimensions of which are as follows; 700mm/27.5in wide, 600mm/23.5in deep and 350mm/13.25in high. Ideally I would like the box to take up no more than around half of that space.

I mainly listen to breakbeat and hip-hop at the mo', although I have a very eclectic taste in music and would like a design that would be slightly biased towards SQ, but would also like it to drop nice and low too (don't we all)

Here's the spec for the sub from the Alpine website:

Size: 12"
Impedance: 4Ω
Power Handling: 300W RMS/ 1000W Peak
Frequency response: Fs~1kHz
D.C. Coil Resonance (Re) 3.6Ω
Inductance (Le) 1kHz/20kHz: 2.38mH/0.85mH
Free Air Resistance (Fs): 26Hz
Equivalent Stiffness (Vas): 66L
Qms/Qes/Qts: 10.39/0.38/0.37
X max/ X peak: 12.9mm/25.8mm
Mechanical excursion (P-P): 55mm
Gap/Coil height (Hag/Hvc): 10mm/35.8mm
Cone area (Sd): 467.59cm²
Diaphragm Material: Kevlar reinforced pulp
Spider material: Nomex
Magnet weight: 89.4oz
Voil coil diameter: 50mm
Recommened sealed box volume: 0.7~1.0 1^3

If any of you good people could point me in the right of direction to getting myself a nice design to make the most of this sub, I would be very grateful!!:)

I do designs for $6 in 2D and $10 for a 3D to scale rendering.
