View Full Version : Can we use home stero speakers?

Hi, can we use house stereo speakers in cars? Lets say the round mids for example, they are also 4 ohms....
Maybe, maybe not.
Most mobile speakers optimized for door installation are designed for IB, while most home speakers aren't...they're looking for sealed or ported alignments. You could always glass door pods or kicks or them, but that's work you may or may not want to do.
Other than that, there's no real problem with it...

If they're the type of mid you want, you can use them. But mind you, just because it may be good in a home environment, that doesn't make it the best choice in a car.

Yea...you gotta get the right T/S parameters (mainly a high Qts). I have some 6 ohm 6.5"s I'm gonna throw in temporarily...they look and sound good, so eh, what the hell?
You can find a lot of discussion on using "home" speakers in mobile systems here:

Pretty much every "DIY" component set uses home audio speakers.

Earl Zausmer, in a BMW.
He's also the one who had 15" subs in his kicks, which ofcourse retailed for around $15k (just for the subs)

It's very common nowadays to use home audio drivers in cars.
And it's not uncommon to see car audio speakers in home also....:D
