Does the shape of a sealed box affect performance or anything of the sort? What about the shape of a ported box? If the port is the correct area, would the shape of the rest of the box matter at all?

yes it will.
if you have a perfect cube, standing waves will occur.
the best shape would actually be a sphere ;)
Although the effect is decreased for subbass...:)
Even in midrange cabs, a deflex pad placed behind the speakers goes a long way to reduce standing waves.

Subbass soundwaves are too long for standing waves to occur, unless you were using a room of your house as a sub enclosure.
Not really till you start getting into the higher midbass to midrange region that standing waves become an issue.

the answer to the question is yes...
especially with ported enclosers...port and sub placement along with the overall shape make a huge difference.
