After 2 days of working (between school and us being lazy), here it is after the final construction. The box is 2.0 cubic foot after all displacements and is tuned to 32hz.

Note, the amp will be sitting on top of the box, the reason it is not on there now is because my wires werent long enough to reach. Going to extend them tomorrow and get it mounted up right, and I'll take more pics. Friday we're going to fill in all of the countersunk screw holes, get it real nice and smooth, then paint it flat black. Going to be ordering some Kicker cast aluminum grills, I think they'll look sweet. More pics along the way.

Here's a couple pieces cut out..

Stapling and glueing the first side on for a temporary hold before it's all screwed together.

The desired arrangement...

Just a little bit of silicone to seal it up :yumyum:

THE BOX IS BUILT!.. but there's no holes?

*END OF DAY 1. Left my camera at home for all of day 2 so you miss all of the cutting and etc.

Anyways here's the finished construction of it

Sitting in the back of my Jeep, pretty tight fit.

View from further back, looks nice IMO.

Closer view of the back... also I realized how bad my bumper cover needs armor-all'd.

So there it is, completely done with the building. After listening to it initially, wow it is loud! Way louder then I could ever expect, and they hit lowwwwwwww! These things sound excellent while pounding.

So you're probably asking how I'm going to get to the subs if I need to.. well... we thought ahead for once. Mounting them from the inside has some advantages.. such as better anti-theft, nothing going to be hitting the cones, and the foam gasket is on the top of the basket instead of the bottom. We decided to mount them from the inside, and decided on a way to be able to take the front on and off. What we did was make our own re-useable gasket out of silicone. We layed down a bead all the way around, then used strips of the real thin plastic that Dillions plastic bags are made of and put them over the silicone all the way around. We put the top board on and let it sit overnight. Next afternoon, we took of the board, and pealed up all of the plastic. Voila, a perfectly fit silicone gasket all the way around.

Me, a friend, and his dad built this. Let me/us know what you think

*EDIT* forgot to add, also included in friday's to-do list, is to use a router with a round off bit to round the edges on the sub holes for a more smooth-flowing design.

I originally wanted to put spray-on bed liner on it to match the Jeep theme I plan on having soon, but I think i'll paint it flat black for now. If I dont like how that turns out I may carpet it, but I hate carpeting, so I'll probably pay the local shop to do it :uhoh:. Because they'll probably want a good $150-$200 to do it, It will probably just stay black.

Hey if you take your time, Carpet isn't hard at all.

nice box man. Dont you have multiple shops? 200 to carpet that is crazy imo. I'd check around on some pricing. You'll prolly have to bring em the box to get a quote though.

Im not going to get it metered because the local shop's meter is ridiculous. They claim 155 off of a sealed 15 T2 and 1000rms in a Camaro.

Vid for sure later on today.

Maybe ported on the AC... But I doubt sealed unless their meter placment was wack.

I find it hard to believe theres no port noise with what looks like 3 2" ports..

I find it hard to believe theres no port noise with what looks like 3 2" ports..

I'm running 68.75 square inches of port for the 7 re8's I'm running and have zero port noise, prolly overkill but the port is about 2ft from my head.

He may have some port noise goin on but that far back in the vehicle butted up to the back of the vehicle maybe its not audible from the driver seat. I wish I had that luxory!

What if hes showin off to his friends and pops the hatch and all you hear is that horrid fluttering noise lol

JeffyZ33
10-27-2005, 03:10 PM
I hear none from the drivers seat, and none at low-levels with the hatch open. I'll turn it up later and take a vid and listen for noise then. As of now I hear NONE though.

and yes, they're 3x 2'' ID ports

Carefully throw a 32hz tone through it and see if you get any noise back there. Mine moves a stupid ton of air at tuning or just a bit below. For a cheap speaker these 8's are the shiz arent they?

Might want to sand the sharp edge offa those pvc pipes to, just for an easy 5 minute job that can help a little.

ay look it glue.... U kno what i think u read my mind. I was in class to day thinkin why nobody mounts there subs like that. But the amp placement is the only thing that I am unshure about. Besides that it looks great.

Listening to "Throw it up" by Lil John absolutely killed my Jeep. The back plastic piece that mounts to the hatch that the liscense plate mounts to was moving a good 1/4'' and is now loose. I have rattles that have never been there before. Rear windsheild wiper was bouncing, the roof was tossing coins, bass moved your clothes, etc. I was really beginning to love the setup.

And then... I went home to get in to my work clothes. About 1/2 mile away from work while listening to music at a low volume the bass stops, I looked down at my remote and see PROTECT lit up. Look in the rear view and looky there a cloud of smoke. Amp is FUBAR. I'm hoping I can get refunded by ikesound seeing that they sent me a refurb amp and I emailed them the day I got it telling them that. Off to a better amp I guess.

For $240 plus box materials I was thinking this setup is the shizzzzzzzz. Guess the Brutus is the weak link.

> then 2 ported comp vr 12''s @ 35hz off of 700
> then this 15'' "top of the line" audiobahn sealed off of 1500

SQ is amazing considering as well. Everyone I showed today was like "those are 8's"?? Got more questions about where to get them when I said how cheap they are.

Yeah crappy amp IMO

JeffyZ33
10-27-2005, 11:17 PM
This is 2 ohm.

Funny thing is, I had an NX750d under my seat which is carpeted (aka traps in heat) running at 1 ohm compared to this bx1500d out in the air where it can loose heat better running at 2 ohms. The difference? The lower line nemesis ran harder and lasted me for over a year before i sold it compared to this going on under 2 weeks.

My camera turns out pictures just on the edge of resizing by photobucket. Sometimes they resize just right and sometimes they resize but not small enough .

Anyways, I bought a new sander today and started sanding down. I hope I can buy a 1200d from HCCAFan tomorrow or monday :greedy:

Getting some good progress on the box, I think it's going to be sweet.

After my friends dad changed around the box, it came out a lot bigger than I thought. Shows about 3.2 cubes before any displacements. Now I need to find out new port lengths and change them
