i was looking at some saturday alpine, eclipse, pioneer. the alpine didnt like the slider control. the eclipse i didnt like there display or the menu functions. the pioneer hu i didnt like the knob sticking out and it seems like it would break after alot of use. i was going to buy the pioneer 840 i think was the number (no sticking out knob) i, like $500 but didnt have sirius radio hookups just xm. or am i just getting old i mean ur going to use it every day and look at it so why not be happy with one u purchase.

I don't think they "****"

Just seems that the current offerings from the larger manufacturer's don't fit your particular tastes.

What's your budget, and what particular features are you looking for in a headunit?

the display on the eclipse looks not cheesy but not what i expect from them. maybe it was the models i was looking at. well just playing with the head units in the store it seems that eclipse was awkward to navigate but i only was looking at it for 5-10 min and i would pay 500 for a radio ill go look again

I kinda agree with you. I remember how the Eclipses used to look back in the early 90's and I think what the hell happened? I think the new Eclipses are butt ugly. I think the Pioneers have always looked pretty good. It's the only brand of deck I've owned over the years. With the exception of a Clairon Pro Audio that came with an Accord I bought years ago. I hated that deck with a passion and sold it like 2 days later to a friend.

I recently got a p770mp and I'm still getting used to the looks. I like the silver case and the blue illimunitation, but I miss the multicolor of my old Pioneer deck. However the power and features of this deck outweigh my old deck by a mile.

my guess is the manufactuers are just setting something for the future. new technology like alpines touch glide and pioneers futuristic look with there P80mp. i personally like the new features and looks...mostly panasonics line-up (loads of power and **** face displays)

Id say its just you. Everyone has thier own opinions on cosmetics. Also bear in mind alot of newer products are targeted towards younger crowds.

I think the new Eclipse's are kind of retarded looking too, but I am buying quality; not cosmetics.;)

i'll enjoy listening to one of the best sounding decks out there period, I very much enjoy my ugly duckling thank you very much...although its very nice in my eyes...

But hey, caraudio is all about looks...huh

BTW, considering the amount of bells and whistles, the Eclipse ergos are easily amongst the easiest to navigate through everything. Nothing worse than clicking a single knob to get to every single menu/submenu-specially tuning... The Eclipse, once you get an idea where everything is-its quick to get in/out of everything....and get back to listening music.
Plus no matter which menu you are under, the volume knob still works...for real time tuning...

The again it comes down to the individuals needs..

Why the ill thoughts due to a Sony mention? Are we blindly hating on the company maybe;)

It's known I use a Sony CDX-M9905x as my HU.
