What do you guys think the best head unit is right now (2005 model, not including dvd/screens)??

IMHO denon or mcintosh or nakamichi or eclipse i guess. all depends on what the consumer is looking for be it d/a converters or 30 band eq. etc.
I'd settle for the P9 combo :D

I don't know would the introduction of the P9 combo into your (the royal "your" - not speaking to you specifically) setup realistically be considered 'settling.'
Can't see where anybody would be unhappy with it at all...excepting them being terribly foolish. :)
(yes, yes, yes - I know you didn't mean it literally....)
Myself - I'd go with the F1 if for no other reason than cosmetics - I like the look of it better than the P9 - but that's just me.

they make some of the best ones ;)
the rockford fosgate rfx-8250 (rebadged denon) is one of the best affordable HU's.
or you could throw down some major cash and find a dct-r1/z1.
